Yesterday the WCAC quarterfinals took place on the campus of Galluadet University. Four great matchups ensued to set the table for a couple of heavyweight semifinal matchups this afternoon. Let's take a look at the standouts from yesterday's slate.

[player_tooltip player_id='1259620' first='Darren' last='Harris'] | Paul VI '24 | Duke commit

Harris was in peak form yesterday in their 77-52 win over Bishop Ireton. It was a tightly contested game at halftime, but Harris caught fire in the third quarter to help create separation and set the tone for a smooth cruising fourth quarter. The Duke commit led the attack with 23 points on 8-of-14 from the field and 5-of-9 from deep. He made the Ireton defense pay with any delay in rotation, miscommunication as he cut off pin downs or on spot-ups in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id='1370514' first='Malcolm' last='Thomas'] | DeMatha '24

Thomas has been on a quiet tear this season and for other scouts who were in attendance who don't get to see Thomas as often, they walked away impressed with his progress. The 6'7 lefty forward is as springy as ever and showed making multiple plays above the rim on both ends. Thomas led DeMatha with 20 points on an efficient 8-of-11 from the field and collected six rebounds in their 66-63 win over Bishop O'Connell.

[player_tooltip player_id='1259618' first='Isaiah' last='Abraham'] | Paul VI '24

Abraham's versatility was on full display in the win over Ireton. The 6'7 wing scored 15 points and hauled in seven boards. He was active in passing lanes where he recorded three steals and was effective in transition on or off the ball where he eventually converted on looks at the rim. He also knocked down a fluid catch and shoot three.

[player_tooltip player_id='1089572' first='Daquan' last='Davis'] | St. John's (DC) '24

It was more of the same for Davis as he made his presence felt at both ends making tough plays that helped secure a 68-63 win over a scrappy Good Counsel squad. The 6'2 combo guard notched 19 points, nine rebounds and two assists in the win. His will to win was evident made all the difference in holding off Good Counsel, who never seemed go away despite facing a large deficit in the early goings.

[player_tooltip player_id='1370498' first='Nykolas' last='Lewis'] | Gonzaga '25

Gonzaga was dominant in their 72-47 victory over Bishop McNamara and it was Lewis who showcased his ability to impact a game in winning ways despite struggling to find his shot. He still scored 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting while securing 12 rebounds and dishing out five assists. No matter if he's scoring or not, Lewis keeps constant pressure on the defense with paint touches and an aggressive mindset to push the pace in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id='999616' first='DeShawn' last='Harris-Smith'] | Paul VI '23 | Maryland commit

Maryland's staff was in full attendance to watch their future guard. Harris-Smith was named WCAC Player of the Year, but had some uncharacteristic turnovers to start this game. He quickly righted the ship and got back to what he does best, which is being a forceful driver and finisher at the rim. He even knocked down two triples in front of his future coach Kevin Willard, which is always the part of his game that is critiqued the most. Harris-Smith scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and recorded five assists in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='1782690' first='Silas' last='Devonish'] | Bishop Ireton '26

It was my first time seeing Devonish live this season and he left a great impression with his fearlessness going up against a juggernaut that is PVI. Devonish is small in stature, but makes up for it with his quick burst, twitchy change-of-speed and ability to finish among taller defenders using craft. He led Ireton with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting and converted on all three of his looks from deep.

[player_tooltip player_id='1370496' first='Derek' last='Dixon'] | Gonzaga '25

While Lewis gets much of the spotlight for this Gonzaga team, Dixon has proved himself time and time again as a dynamic, dependable scorer. The 6'4 guard led his team in the win over McNamara with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists. He possesses poise beyond his years, underrated feel for the game as a playmaker for others and can impact in numerous ways defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='1241905' first='Corey' last='Caulker'] | Bishop O'Connell '23

I thought Caulker was critical in the second half for O'Connell where he made several plays to keep his team in striking distance of nearly stealing the victory. I was the catalyst of orchestrating half court sets offensively, was patient on catches and took advantage of driving lanes to get into the paint before creating opportunities for others. He scored 12 points on 5-of-7 from the field, tallied six assists and grabbed four rebounds in the loss.
