PHD thought it would be fun to look at some of the top players from some of the best teams in A-hoops. Be on the lookout for these players/these teams as the season heats up!


14-2 team record. 21.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 4 apg. Lennox has solid wins over Tea, EPJ, Platte-Geddes, MVP, Madison, and Waconia (MN). Porter is a mismatch nightmare because of his size, length, skill, and how much he handles the ball. Ihnen does an amazing job at finding his open teammates. If hockey assists were a stat, he would be towards the top in the state. Lennox is an excellent up-tempo team, much of that is credit to Ihnen’s elite PG play. He is a scary scorer that can hit from every level and finish above the rim with ease. Porter is an excellent rebounder and on most nights he defends a top player from the opposing team. He and the Orioles are a force to be reckoned with!
14-3 record with great wins over De Smet, Castlewood, and Aberdeen Christian. 13.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 4.6 apg, 3.4 spg, 3fgpg 1.3, 3FG% 27. A top PG in all of South Dakota. A leader for the Chargers, 1 of 2 top scorers on a nightly basis. Produces from every level. Easton creates the Hamlin offensive tempo and he makes the Chargers go. He can hit from deep and has been great at getting to the rim. Do not for get about his passing and creating for others. On defense, Neuendorf is playing really well and he has helped make the Chargers a solid team on the defensive side of the ball.
14-3 record with great wins over De Smet, Castlewood, and Aberdeen Christian. 14.4 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.5 spg, 3fgpg 2.1, 3FG% 32.4. A leader for the Chargers, 1 of 2 top scorers on a nightly basis. Tyson scores well from every level. He is quick and athletic. He is a scary slasher but also deadly from 3pt land. The Chargers run a ton of action through Stevenson and he is great at executing. On defense, Tyson is having a nice season and he has helped make the Chargers a solid team on the defensive side of the ball.
12-4 record on the season. The Titans have impressive wins over Dell Rapids, De Smet, and Western Christian (IA). Almas is the leading scorer for the Titans at 14.4 ppg and he shoots 50 FG%. He also averages 4.6 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.8 spg. Almas guards the opposing team’s best scorer in every contest. He is super explosive and opposing team’s have to game plan for him. Almas is an exciting player to watch on the hardwood. It is easy to say, Sam is a tough two-way player.
12-4 record on the season. The Titans have super nice wins over Dell Rapids, De Smet, and Western Christian (IA). 13.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 5.1 apg, 3.4 spg, 3FG% 30. Blake is a stat filler/stuffer. He is an energizer bunny for the Titans and he never comes out of the game. Thompson is a playmaker! He is one of the premier athletes in the Titans conference/region.
10-7 record. They do not have a top record in SD but the Bulldogs have shown that they can compete with the best teams. Madison has quality wins over Dell Rapids St Mary and Dell Rapids. 21.6 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 2.7 bpg, 1.7 apg, 64 3FG%, 34 3FG%, 71 FT%, and 8 double-doubles. Jensen had a career high and Madison school record 41 point performance against Tiospa Zina on January 28 and a 39 point performance against Dell Rapids on January 19. Aiden has proven to be one of the best players in SD this season. He works extremely hard in practice and in games to help his team succeed. He is very humble in doing so. Jensen can step outside and knock the 3 down as well as receiving double teams in the post most games. Jensen and the Bulldogs are a scary team!
15-1 record. The Comets are having a breakout season and Kiefer has been amazing. They started the season by winning the LNI and they took down Lower Brule and White River. The Comets also have nice wins against Dickinson Trinity (ND), Shiloh Christian (ND), and Lakota Tech. Benson is an intense player that is full of confidence. His pull-up jumper is deadly, he has hit multiple big shots throughout the season with a game winner, and buzzer beaters. Kieffer is making a name for himself this season.
16-1 record and ranked #2. The Cossacks have nice wins over CWL, Beresford, De Smet, Hamlin, STM, and Deuel. Sioux Valley is a super unselfish team, the wealth is shared and winning is the priority. 15 ppg, 11 prg, 2 apg, 2.5 bpg. Squires gets his work done with around 9/10 shots per game and is shooting a scorching 80% on FG’s. Alec recently broke the Sioux Valley record with career dunks (over 45). He also has the single game record with 5 dunks. Squires is a top rim protector, a great rebounder, is always improving, and I am always impressed with his hands, feet, and movement w/o the ball.
16-1 record and ranked #2. The Cossacks have nice wins over CWL, Beresford, De Smet, Hamlin, STM, and Deuel. Sioux Valley is a super unselfish team, the wealth is shared and winning is the priority. 19 ppg, 5 rpg, 7 apg, 3 spg. Oli gets his work done with less than 12 shots per game and is shooting a hot 45% from three. Vincent holds the Cossack record with charges taken and is closing in on the assist record which is above 500! He is also closing in on the school career points record. When watching Oli play, it is easy to see that he is marvelously skilled and he is a complete playmaker. Vincent will do whatever it takes to get the W!
14-4 record on the season and the Quarriers are loaded with talent. They have quality wins over Hamlin, EPJ, Aberdeen Christian, and MVP. The lefty sparkplug and All-Star athlete, Pankonen is averaging 21 ppg, 4 rpg, 5 apg, 3 spg. He is electric on the hardwood and the straw that stirs the drink for the Quarriers. Brayden has a hair-trigger and he can light it up from deep. He is a creator that makes others better. He is also a thief on defense with great instincts. If you call Pankonen a playmaker, that is an understatement.
An impressive team record at 16-1. The Warriors have quality wins this season over Lyman, STM, MVP, and Gregory. A complete DUDE that does it all. 19.2 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.8 spg. Volmer excels at both ends of the court. He is a long guard with intriguing athleticism. Blake is a facilitator that makes everyone else better. Volmer is a leader, gamer, and a winner!
An impressive team record at 16-1. The Warriors have quality wins this season over Lyman, STM, MVP, and Gregory. 12.6 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.7 apg. A tough low post that will do the dirty work around the hoop. Can score with his back to the basket but will also WHAM it. A physical and full-contact player. Hammerbeck is a fierce defender and a tough matchup for any squad.
16-0 record, #1 in State, currently on a 43-game win Streak! High-quality wins this season over: Dell Rapids, Western Christian (IA), EPJ, SFC, Sioux Valley, and Minneapolis North. Tish is averaging 14.5 ppg and 7 rpg. You will have to search far and wide to find a player that is more physical than Tish. He is strong and smart. He anticipates well, takes what the D gives him, and he will work his tail off. Wingert is a top BIG in SD.
16-0 record, #1 in State, currently on a 43-game win Streak! High-quality wins this season over: Dell Rapids, Western Christian (IA), EPJ, SFC, Sioux Valley, and Minneapolis North. 8.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.5 spg. One of the best role players in the State. Hennies would be putting up gaudy numbers on almost any other team. He is a handworker, a two-way player, and a clutch performer.
16-0 record, #1 in State, currently on a 43-game win Streak! High-quality wins this season over: Dell Rapids, Western Christian (IA), EPJ, SFC, Sioux Valley, and Minneapolis North. 14.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 9.3 apg, 4.1 spg. 9.3 assists per game is an insane number!!! Rosenquist sees plays happen before everyone else, is an elite passer, and he has eyes in the back of his head. He is a dynamic player on both ends. A top PG and an elite defender.
16-0 record, #1 in State, currently on a 43-game win Streak! High-quality wins this season over: Dell Rapids, Western Christian (IA), EPJ, SFC, Sioux Valley, and Minneapolis North. 26.9 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.9 spg. As complete of a player as there is in SD. Amazing movement without the ball, his jumper is a work of art, tough defender, complete STUD.
14-3 record. The Chargers have good wins over Lennox, EPJ, O’Gorman, Dell Rapids, Tea, and White River. Plays with a high hoops IQ, knows when to play fast and when to slow down, high-level shooter with extended range. Makes winning plays. Great skills, mature for his age, excellent feel for the game.

Mulder hits triples off the bounce and the catch. He is fantastic in transition, plays fearless, and can take over a game as a 10th grader.
14-3 record. The Chargers have good wins over Lennox, EPJ, O’Gorman, Dell Rapids, Tea, and White River. Part of the Charger Twin Towers. For his length and young age, Griffen has an amazing feel for the game. He is a willing passer, does not try to do to much, and he does a great job of protecting the paint. Goodbary can produce from every level but does most of his damage from inside and mid-range. He is an impressive defender for a 10th grader.
14-3 record. The Chargers have good wins over Lennox, EPJ, O’Gorman, Dell Rapids, Tea, and White River. Part of the Charger Twin Towers. Bruns is athletic, strong, and physical. He has a great jump shot. He can hit from three and from mid-range. Ethan is athletic to the rim and can finish with power or finesse. He is a rim protector, a heavy producer on the boards, and and overall athletic defender.
