SUBSTATE 1
-Webster City (18-3) stayed alive with a 57-52 home victory against ADM. Jaime Grossoehme Jaime Grossoehme 6'1" | SG Webster City | 2023 State IA (16.9 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 2.5 APG), Briar Klaver Briar Klaver 6'4" | SF Webster City | 2024 State IA (14.1 PPG, 8.4 RPG) and Ty McKinney Ty McKinney 6'0" | PG Webster City | 2023 State IA (13.2 PPG, 3.7 APG) have led the Lynx this season.
-Webster City advanced to play 10th-ranked Sioux City Heelan in Monday’s substate final at Fort Dodge Middle School. The Crusaders (17-6) downed Carroll, 61-51, at home on Thursday. Matt Noll led them with 22 points and seven rebounds. Carter Kuehl Carter Kuehl 5'11" | PG Bishop Heelan | 2023 State IA (13 points, 8 assists) and Quinn Olson Quinn Olson 6'3" | SF Heelan | 2024 State IA (9 points, seven assists) also stood out for the winners.
SUBSTATE 2
-Third-ranked MOC-Floyd Valley (21-2) kept their championship hopes alive with a 66-52 win against Sioux Center Thursday at home. Jesse Van Kalsbeek Jesse Van Kalsbeek 6'6" | SF MOC-Floyd Valley | 2024 State IA (19.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 3.0 APG), Ayden Klein Ayden Klein 5'11" | SG MOC-Floyd Valley | 2023 State IA (16.5 PPG) and Luke Korver Luke Korver 6'1" | SG MOC-Floyd Valley | 2023 State IA (16.3 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 3.5 APG) have led the Dutchmen this season.
-Algona (16-7) moved on to face MOC-Floyd Valley in Monday’s substate championship at Spencer. The Bulldogs won at Humboldt, 70-64, Thursday with Ben Helmers Ben Helmers 6'4" | PG Algona | 2025 State IA (24 points), Caden Weber (19), Alex Manske Alex Manske 6'3" | SG Algona | 2025 State IA (13) and Tristan Larsen (11) all scoring in double figures for the victors.
SUBSTATE 3
-No. 2 Clear Lake (22-1) advanced with a 60-54 triumph against visiting Ballard Thursday night. Cael Stephany Cael Stephany 6'1" | PG Clear Lake | 2024 State IA (21 points), Travaughn Luyobya Travaughn Luyobya 5'10" | PG Clear Lake | 2023 State IA (17) and Thomas Meyer Thomas Meyer 6'4" | SF Clear Lake | 2025 State IA (10) led the Lions in scoring.
-Seventh-ranked North Polk (18-5) secured a substate final meeting with Clear Lake on Monday at Ames. The Comets proved too much for Boone Thursday night, downing the visitors, 54-26. Reggie Postel Reggie Postel 6'1" | SG North Polk | 2024 State IA (12.4 PPG) and Jackson Nemmers Jackson Nemmers 6'2" | SG North Polk | 2023 State IA (10.7) have paced them in scoring in ’22-23.
SUBSTATE 4
-Home-standing Marion (18-5) held off an upset bid by Decorah Thursday night, moving on with a 71-68 victory. The fifth-ranked Wolves were aided by a late steal and lay-in by junior Payton Hodges Payton Hodges 6'1" | SG Marion | 2024 State IA , who finished with 18 points and five assists. Brayson Laube Brayson Laube 6'2" | PG Marion | 2023 State IA scored 20 for the winners with Iowa football recruit Alex Mota Alex Mota 6'1" | SG Marion | 2023 State IA tallying 13 points, 12 rebounds and four assists for the winners.
-In another tight ballgame Thursday, Charles City edged visiting Mount Vernon, 64-61, and will meet Marion Monday at Waterloo East. The Comets (17-5) were led by Kam Mestas Kam Mestas 6'5" | PF Charles City | 2024 State IA (23 points), Keenan Wiley (14) and Chase Low Chase Low 6'3" | PF Charles City | 2023 State IA (11). Evan Brase Evan Brase 6'3" | PF Mount Vernon | 2024 State IA scored 15 for the Mustangs.
SUBSTATE 5
-No. 4 Cedar Rapids Xavier (17-6) took down visiting Western Dubuque, 64-57, on Thursday. Aidan Yamilkoski Aidan Yamilkoski 6'4" | SG Xavier | 2023 State IA (18.4 PPG), Joseph Bean Joseph Bean 6'3" | PG Kennedy | 2024 State IA (14.5) and Josef Lemker Josef Lemker 6'2" | SG Xavier | 2023 State IA (11.7) have led the Saints in scoring this season.
-Xavier will face MVC foe Dubuque Wahlert Monday at West Delaware. The Eagles (13-10) emerged from a tough matchup with Davenport Assumption, 52-51, Thursday. Jack Walsh’s 14 points and four rebounds paced Wahlert, while teammate Duke Faley Duke Faley 6'5" | C Wahlert Catholic | 2023 State IA scored 13 and pulled down three boards.
SUBSTATE 6
-Sixth-rated Newton (16-6) overpowered visiting Fairfield, 72-52, Thursday night. Cole Plowman Cole Plowman 6'4" | PF Newton | 2023 State IA (14.6 PPG, 7.3 RPG), Brody Bauer Brody Bauer 6'2" | SG Newton | 2023 State IA (12.8 PPG, 5.2 RPG) and Jake Ingle Jake Ingle 5'7" | PG Newton | 2023 State IA (10.3 PPG, 4.2 APG) have been leading the Cardinals this winter.
-Solon (18-5) won at Mount Pleasant, 49-36, Thursday to set up a meeting with Newton on Tuesday in Oskaloosa. The Spartans have been paced by juniors Jake Benzing Jake Benzing 6'2" | SG Solon | 2024 State IA (18.0 PPG, 5.9 RPG) and Gehrig Turner (9.9 PPG, 2.5 APG) this season.
SUBSTATE 7
-No. 8 Waverly-Shell Rock (17-5) overcame Pella, 62-56, at home Thursday. Kansas State football recruit Asa Newsom Asa Newsom 6'3" | SF Waverly-Shell Rock | 2023 IA netted a game-high 23 points for the winners.
-The Go-Hawks advanced to face Des Moines Hoover Monday at Nevada. The Huskies pulled off a 65-49 win at ninth-ranked Williamsburg on Thursday. Chase Henderson Chase Henderson 6'0" | PG Hoover | 2023 State IA led the victors with 23 points, while teammates Emmanuel Fandeh and Abe Vos Abe Vos 6'2" | SG Ames | 2025 State IA scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.
SUBSTATE 8
-Top-ranked Bondurant-Farrar (22-0) overwhelmed Clarke, 83-40, on Thursday. The Bluejays’ Colby Collison Colby Collison 6'4" | SF Bondurant-Farrar | 2023 State IA (19.7 PPG), Jaxson Fried Jaxson Fried 6'6" | SF Bondurant- Farrar | 2023 State IA (16.8) and Reed Pfaltzgraff (11.4) have been scoring in double figures in ’22-23.
-Harlan (17-5) marched on to meet Bondurant-Farrar Monday at Creston. The Cyclones were paced by Teagon Kasperbauer’s 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a Thursday’s 77-63 win at Glenwood. Jace Gubbels scored 20 points, four rebounds and a pair of assist, and Jacob Birch Jacob Birch 6'1" | SF Harlan | 2023 State IA scored 15 and handed out three assists for the victors.
