Here’s a look at the players who stood out on Tuesday:
A majority of Senior’s defensive attention was focused on Reed and Dolphin, and Schlaak was the major beneficiary of that action, dropping a game-high 26 points on 11-14 shooting (4-4 3P). A 6-6 combo forward who recently made a major leap up the 2024 rankings, he showed why throughout the course of this game, moving without the ball in his hands and showing that he can stretch the floor with a smooth release off the catch from deep. He provides a ton of defensive versatility with his combination of size, length, and athleticism, blocking 2 shots and coming away with 2 steals. He can score inside and out, showing great hands, footwork, and touch around the rim in addition to his floor-stretching. This was without a doubt the best game of his varsity career, and he showed why college coaches will be keeping a close eye on him this summer.
The future Upper Iowa point guard has such a tremendous feel for the game and court vision, he just makes the game look effortless. He loves to get his teammates involved and is a creative passer with excellent instincts. He dished out 8 assists for the Cougars in addition to his 11 points and 3 rebounds. He’s one of the best ball-handlers in the state, a calming influence in the backcourt who can create plenty of space to get his shot off with his combination of handles, speed, and footwork.
Highlights
Courtney is an explosive athlete who absolutely dominated the glass throughout the game, pulling down 12 rebounds (7 offensive) against a bigger Senior team. He has a nose for the ball and attacks the glass relentlessly on both ends of the floor. He showed that he can score from all three levels, create his own shots or looks for others, and he’s a tremendous on-ball defender with an intriguing mixture of size, length, and lateral quickness.
The Cougars’ leading scorer had a rough shooting game (0-7 FG) and finished with just 2 points, but he didn’t let that impact the rest of his game, continuing to play outstanding on-ball defense and getting others involved. He has a high basketball IQ, understanding that he was the focal point of the defensive game plan for the Rams and not forcing anything, instead playing his role as a decoy and serving as a major reason that Schlaak got so many open looks.
A 6-7 big man with excellent footwork and touch around the rim, Schultz is an intriguing young prospect with high upside. He’s a mobile big man who can protect the paint (2 blocks) and score on post touches, finishing with 10 points on 5-10 shooting. He didn’t show it during game action, but during warmups he showed a pretty good looking stroke out to the arc, so if he’s able to add some consistent range to his arsenal, he could be one of the most dominant scorers in the state over the next four years.
Highlights
Williams is a fantastic athlete at 6-5/6-6, and he uses his length to impact the game on both ends of the floor. He showed increased comfort as a ball-handler, putting the ball on the floor and creating shots for himself on occasion, but he’s at his best when he’s moving and cutting off the ball and finishing opportunities that his teammates get him. He finished with 11 points on 5-8 shooting with 8 rebounds.

The senior point guard handled the Kennedy pressure better than anyone else, dishing out 6 assists in the loss. He’s a steady presence in the backcourt, a patient and steady ball-handler and passer who isn’t going to do anything that blows you away, but he’s a solid guard who does a little bit of everything.
