Thompson was dominant early for Columbus Independence as they took an early lead for the City League with a victory over Central Crossing. Thompson knocked down three 3-pointers and was physical in the paint. A little undersized for a power forward but his strength and shooting ability makes him productive at the high school level. Antony Lowery also stood out for the 76ers with a couple dunks in transition.
Powell also stood out at the All Ohio Season Opening event but this was a second time to catch him do similar things and further cement his status as somebody who will be added to the rankings during the next update. Powell knocked down three 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes of game action as New Albany really dominated from start to finish. Also showed off his bounce with a rim grazer dunk as well. A wing forward who can shoot is something many Division III programs look for and Powell fits this description.
Whitaker was a bright spot for Columbus International as he used his strength to score efficiently around the rim for his team. I thought Whitaker played with a good motor and even after the result was decided, was still going hard and scoring for his team. Another undersized power forward, Whitaker has the strength and toughness to compete in the paint. Another prospect who will be added to our 2023 rankings during the next update.
Hilliard Bradley got two big wins on back-to-back days last weekend, beating previously unbeaten Olentangy Orange and Division III powerhouse Columbus Africentric. The biggest key for the Jags was finding other guys to score the ball and Abrass came up huge in the early stages of the game with nine first quarter points. Knocking down two spot-up 3-pointers and an and-1 early allowed Hilliard Bradley to build a sizeable lead that they would cling to for the rest of the game. Abrass showed the ability to make shots and more importantly defend for his team.
