Tyran Cook Tyran Cook 6’1″ | SG Waukesha South | 2023 State WI was just on another level Saturday against West Allis Hale. He’s not only one of the most productive players in the state, but also one of the most entertaining. Cook showed just why as he pulled up at the free throw line, got a defender in the air, stepped through while throwing the ball off the backboard, and then elevating to catch and dunk it. That was complimented by a block on the other end that he got a hand on well above the rim, showcasing his impressive explosiveness. Tyran found a ton of success getting into his pull-up jumper as his blow by speed often caused defenders to play off of him, giving him the space to stop and pop. Thought he made some accurate passes out of difficult angles to set his teammates up for wide open shots out of pick & pops. With the game tied Tyran knocked down two free throws with 4 seconds left to give his team a win.
Robert Peters Robert Peters 6’8″ | PF West Allis Hale | 2023 State WI is one of the most physically imposing players in Wisconsin, and he took full advantage of his size against a smaller Waukesha South team. Peters was finding ways to get deep post touches, whether it was backing his man down into deep position or attack off the dribble and establishing both feet in the paint. With a strong 6’7-6’8 frame, once he got into the paint he was unstoppable powering through contact to score. From seeing him in the past I knew he was a threat in the paint, but he impressed with his comfort bringing the ball up for his team and taking smaller forwards off the dribble. Physical presence on the glass who isn’t going to cough the ball up once he gets two hands on it.

Not sure there’s been a more electric scorer than Luther at the Division 1 level this season. No matter who he plays he just continues to put up numbers. On Saturday it was a 36 point outing to help lead his team to a 16 point win over a very good Milwaukee Hamilton team. He’s extremely quick and is always moving around whether on or off the ball. Does a great job of running off screens and losing his man off the ball, and can quickly catch, get squared up, and fire off a shot before his man can catch up. Very quick player off the dribble who does a nice job of getting into the lane while keeping his eyes scanning the floor for open teammates. Despite scoring 30 ppg he’s still an unselfish player who knows when to shoot but also when to set up one of his teammates with an even better shot.

Cooper was utilizing his quickness to make a big impact on Saturday’s game. With Hamilton’s defense putting a big focus on Luther Smith Luther Smith 6’1″ | SG Sussex Hamilton | 2023 State WI , the ball was in Cooper’s hands quite a bit, and I thought he did a great job or bringing the ball up against heavy pressure. That ability to get into his team’s half-court offense without turning the ball over helped limit an athletic Hamilton team’s transition opportunities. Once into the offense Cooper was able to get free for a couple of threes while also being able to attack off the dribble and finish at the rim with his right hand. Was fine dribbling up the floor but also kept his eyes scanning for opportunities to toss the ball ahead if one of his teammates was sprinting up the floor. Finished with 14 points in the win.

Simeon continues to be one of the best unsigned players in Wisconsin’s 2023 class. He has size at 6’8, very long arms, and is an impressive athlete. Despite those physical characteristics, I think the most impressive thing about Simeon is his work rate. He runs the floor as hard as any big in transition, hunts down just about any shot that comes off the rim, and embraces contact on both ends of the floor. That high effort led to a handful of put-back buckets as well as a drawn charge on the other end. In the half-court he was dangerous out of the pick & roll because of his quickness towards the rim, as well as the coordination to catch and finish in one motion.

With Waukesha South missing their second leading scorer, Ethan stepped up with some timely plays in the win. In the second half he came up with a pair of timely steals, and in a tight game like that every single defensive stop was important. Going back the opposite direction he took full advantage of every look he got around the basket to finish at a high percentage. Also had an impressive spin move leading to a finish in transition. Ethan came in averaging 4.5 ppg, but stepped up when his team needed it against a tough West Allis Hale team.
Recently committed to Bradley, Demarion is a player who usually makes these lists because of his explosive scoring ability. And although he may not have scored quite as much as we’re used to seeing, he did still have a solid showing putting points on the board. It was his passing though that impressed me most. He combined with Simeon Murchison Simeon Murchison 6’9″ | PF Milwaukee Bay View | 2023 State WI on a handful of pick & rolls, displaying great patience to wait for the window to open up and then threading the needle to hit his big at the rim. His scoring from the wing as well as transition finishing are extremely impressive, but if he continues to pass like this it will only make him that much more of a versatile piece for Bradley at the next level.
