The event was held on Monday, Jan. 16 and featured a mix of both prep schools and local high school teams with a plenty of talent in the building. I was able to attend the event and here’s a look at some additional top standouts I saw.
1. Josahn Webster – King/Drew 2026
What stood out the most about Webster was his shooting. Loves to shoot the corner three. He has a quick release and is always ready to shoot in one motion after catching the pass. Uses shot fakes well to get the defender to fly past and still shoot the three, or he can dribble in closer and shoot the midrange. When he’s open at the three-point line, he makes good cuts to the basket for easier buckets. Does a good job positioning himself for rebounds and staying active on the glass.
2. Riley Borg – Moorpark 2023
Borg is just one of the many shooters from distance that Moorpark has. His off-ball movement was solid. Does a good job staying in motion in the halfcourt, using off-ball screens to get free and being able to knock down catch and shoot jumpers. He has a quick release from three-point range and does a good job setting his feet and squaring up with the basket. Makes good cuts along the baseline and drifts out to the corners. Able to handle the ball a bit too, can play on ball or off ball.
3. Ron Jones Jr. – LA Premier Prep 2023
In the game that I saw, Jones’ shot wasn’t quite falling, but you can tell that the motions are there. He’s comfortable with the ball in his hands and being able to create his own shot. He has good size for a wing. Quick shooter, decisive with his moves. He can shoot the faceup jumper or put the ball on the floor and shoot the pull-up. What stood out to me a lot was his activity on the glass, good rebounder for a wing.
4. Dashaun Maron-Gains – Grant 2023
Maron-Gains was one of the better wing scorers at the event. He’s slight, but does well going against bigger defenders and still being able to get to his spots on the court. His activity on the glass is good, he positions himself well and sneaks in for rebounds against bigger players. He was comfortable handling the ball in the halfcourt and being able to attack off the dribble and get to the basket. Good finisher at the rim.
