In a tough matchup against Homestead, it was Simeon making big plays on both ends to keep Hamilton in it. Defensively he was a menace in the paint, blocking five shots and showing he can move his feet on the perimeter against wings. One of his most impressive attributes his how quickly he gets off the floor. That quick burst allows him to thrown down dunks off the catch without having to bring the ball down much, and also allows him to quickly slide in from the help-side and get a hand on shots. Add in finishing touch with either hand and solid passing vision, and you have a post prospect that D1’s will want to keep an eye on this winter. Finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 blocks, and 3 steals.

Milwaukee Washington couldn’t get much going against Lakeside Lutheran, but I was impressed with Davion’s potential. After scoring 25 against Eastbrook Academy he was held to 6 points on Saturday, but showed the raw potential that makes him an intriguing player moving forward. No height listed, but if I took a guess I’d say he’s about 6’7-6’8 with a big frame and long arms that make for a physical presence down low. Moves well at his size and does a great job of walling up around the rim to alter/block plenty of looks inside. On the offensive end he has solid feet and touch around the basket. He’s a hard worker on the floor, and I think the potential is really there if he continues to put in the work on his explosiveness and offensive skillset.
Milan has been Pewaukee’s only returning starter over the first three games this season, and still has the state champs undefeated. Against Oshkosh North he dropped his 2nd straight 30 point game, finding success attacking the rim to score. Everyone in the gym knows he can shoot the lights out, and he used that to his advantage as all it would take is a quick shot/head fake before putting the ball on the floor and using his length to finish at the rim. Milan’s shot wasn’t falling like it usually does, but I like how he turned to the paint to make an impact as he pulled in 10 boards and was a constant presence at the free throw line going a perfect 8-8.
Matched up against a nationally ranked senior, Xzavion wasn’t backing down. He started off the game draining a three from the top of the key as the defense refused to step out on him. He added another three in the second half when his man went under a screen leaving him with too much space. Around the basket Mitchell does a great job of playing off of two feet and staying under control to finish at a high percentage. Even if he misses his shot, Xzavion was quick off the floor to tip in right back in. Looks a little quicker this season as a sophomore and is looking to do more off the dribble than he did last year.
I thought Miles played a nice role for Nicolet down the stretch vs Milwaukee Rufus King. He was tasked with trying to slow down a D1 forward, and had a lot of success doing so in the first half. Offensively he does a nice job operating out of the dunker spot and making those quick cuts when his guards drive to make himself available for dump-off passes. Threw down a dunk early in the second half, and converted on 4-7 of his shots for his 8 points. Is a high effort player on the glass and pulled in 5 rebounds in the win.
He got off to a slow start in the first half, but the South Dakota State commit came alive in the second half to give his team a chance. Whorton started off the half with a baseline slam, and shortly after added two transition finishes. He runs the floor better than most at 6’8, and looks a lot more comfortable now handling the ball in the open floor which allows him to take steals and rebounds and immediately look to push the tempo. He’s a major shot blocking threat as his length and athleticism would suggest, but I was also impressed with his back-to-the-basket game. William was catching on the block and immediately looking to go to work as he could turn over either shoulder and finish with a hook shot.
Highlights
Tilley had a bit of a breakout game against Pius XI. Finishing with 20 points, the 6’5 forward showed he can stretch the floor from deep but also use his strong frame to compete inside. Brandon looks like he can play both the 3 and 4 spots, as he moves well at 6’5 and is composed on the ball. Is someone who can elevate for a mid-range jumper or get all the way to the basket where he has the strength to power through contact. Has scored in double-figures all three games this year and looks ready to help Franklin compete for a conference title.
