The Team Rose Shootout on Saturday was six games of hoops to kick off the two day event. Here we dive into the first day of action in Team Rose Shootout: Saturday Notebook!

Castillo's Dominate in Win over Lane Tech

First game of the Team Rose Shootout was a dominant performance from Lemont and their star duo as they won over Lane Tech 60-49. UW-Parkside signees [player_tooltip player_id='1279762' first='Matas' last='Castillo'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1215313' first='Rokas' last='Castillo'] were phenomenal. Rokas scored 21 points in the victory hitting long threes off the catch and pretty much getting whatever he wanted offensively. His twin brother Matas was often setting him up with his slick passing while still recording 15 points himself. While those two were the show keep an eye on 2024 guard [player_tooltip player_id='1428948' first='Ryan' last='Runaas'] with his feathery jumper as he scored 11 points.

Lane Tech couldn't get much going consistently in this one. We thought their 2025 big man [player_tooltip player_id='1545128' first='Dalton' last='Scantlebury'] had a nice outing scoring 18 points. Good area rebounder on the offensive glass that fights hard for put backs. He also has a go to hook shot and seals well inside in addition to being a shot blocking presence. [player_tooltip player_id='1373439' first='Shaheed' last='Solebo'] is a D1 prospect in the 2024 class with his legit three level scoring as he showed at times in a 16 point outing to begin the day.

St. Laurence 2025s Prove to Be Force

I was really looking forward to seeing the young prospects from St. Laurence and they lived up to my expectations in a 58-44 victory against Farragut. They started five sophomores. The highest ranked prospect and the one we were most with familiar with coming in was [player_tooltip player_id='1545122' first='Caleb' last='Lindsey']. Long and lanky small forward that impacts defensively including swatting a three along with hitting from distance for 11 points. [player_tooltip player_id='1550741' first='Jacob' last='Rice'] made an impression on us at Pangos and started out well in this one with several threes off the catch. Two guard with a sweet shooting stroke notched 15 points. Zerrick Johnson is a good sized combo guard that is crafty with the ball going for 13 points. Another guard a bit on the smaller side at 5'11” EJ Mosley has a good build and knocked in a couple threes on his way to 10 points. The fifth sophomore to watch is Khalil Jones who chipped in 9 points. Balanced effort by this young group!

Farragut had a young prospect of their own to track in 2026 point guard Latrell Kelley. The scoring point guard looks like the next big time guard from the Admirals. Burst with the rock and can create his own shot going for 14 points. Couple of juniors flashed for them including 6'5” Jalen James with his length and shooting ability as he had 8 points. [player_tooltip player_id='1373442' first='Jonathan' last='Calmese'] displayed some tools as well in a 9 point performance.

Bellevue and Toliver Push Lincoln Way East Past Westinghouse

Lincoln Way East took home the victory in the third game of the day 63-51 against Westinghouse. Senior power forward [player_tooltip player_id='1048310' first='George' last='Bellevue'] was fantastic. The bouncy four man plays with such a high motor. Sealed on the block for buckets, got on the glass with tip dunks, spin moves, and even hit a pair of threes. He had 24 points. [player_tooltip player_id='1048329' first='Tylon' last='Toliver'] was the other senior with a big day. The combo guard got to the line at a higher rate by being aggressive with the rock in his hands on his way to 17 points.

On the Westinghouse side junior Treyvon Ali got our attention. The shooting guard was most effective scoring in the paint off the bounce as he had 17 points.

St. Ignatius Rallies, Impresses in Second Half vs RB

This was probably the best game of the day. St. Ignatius won 69-60 against Riverside Brookfield. Early on it was all RB as they led 32-27 at the half. Then St. Ignatius played amazing in the third quarter completely changing the momentum of the game. Miami (OH) commit [player_tooltip player_id='939066' first='Jackson' last='Kotecki'] started the second half out on a personal 6-0 run as he was super aggressive on the glass and interior going for 14 points. Fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='989270' first='Richard' last='Barron'] who is headed to George Mason dropped 14 points using his physicality getting downhill. [player_tooltip player_id='1285517' first='Reggie' last='Ray'] continued his momentum from last weekend with a 16 point performance showing athleticism off the bounce and finishing in the paint. Best game we have seen from top 5 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1385292' first='Phoenix' last='Gill']. The sophomore started off slow, but then got it rolling using his athleticism in the open floor making acrobatic layups for 17 points.

In the beginning it looked like it was going to be the [player_tooltip player_id='1285519' first='Stefan' last='Cicic'] show as the talented 2024 five man got everything he wanted done inside with his physicality and go to right handed hook shot. He had 16 points. [player_tooltip player_id='1170017' first='Arius' last='Alijosius'] didn't shoot it great for the second time in a row seeing him which is rare, but the Winona State signee managed to net 19 points by working well around ball screens turning and finishing through and around contact. [player_tooltip player_id='1157209' first='Will' last='Gonzalez'] is such an intriguing junior. The long armed small forward excelled in the open floor and knocked in a pair of threes for 12 points.

Hyde Park Senior Trio Steps Up

This was an interesting game as Hyde Park tangled with Homewood Flossmoor. The head coach for HF was briefly with Hyde Park before taking the job at HF. Also there was the fact that Hyde Park's top prospect 2024 [player_tooltip player_id='1373451' first='Jurrell' last='Baldwin'] transferred to Hyde Park from HF over the summer. Overall a pretty competitive game as Hyde Park won 62-58. Baldwin had his moments including a pair of threes, couple takes, and swatting multiple shots for 8 points. Their top performer was senior guard Damarion Morris. Thick bodied scoring guard was money from three in the win netting 22 points. He was helped out in the backcourt by [player_tooltip player_id='1434493' first='Josiah' last='Mills'] scoring 11 points and Camron Wilford with 10 points including clutch free throws down the stretch.

We came away intrigued with a few guys for Homewood Flossmoor. Bouncy front court duo [player_tooltip player_id='1537995' first='Vincent' last='Davis'] who is a senior scored 14 points while his junior teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1598706' first='Gakobie' last='Mcneal'] had 13 points. Both are projectable and active inside. [player_tooltip player_id='1488791' first='Carson' last='Brownfield'] is a name to watch in the junior class with his toughness and slashing as he scored 15 points.

Mt. Carmel Shows Out on Home Floor to Close Night vs Curie

In the finale it was all Mt. Carmel winning over Curie 70-55. The Caravan usually play the first game of the day, but with their talented group this year they were placed in primetime against Curie. They got the majority of their production from their fab four. Denver commit [player_tooltip player_id='989268' first='DeAndre' last='Craig'] is tough as nails as he sliced through the defense for runners and put backs on his way to 18 points. The other key senior on this squad [player_tooltip player_id='1371067' first='Anthony' last='Ciaravino'] drained a ton of threes off of Craig dimes netting six triples for 20 total points. His younger brother [player_tooltip player_id='1373436' first='Angelo' last='Ciaravino'] is the top prospect on the team. Long and lanky 6'6” combo forward that was so active all game long. He blocked shots, rebounded, and threw down some nasty dunks for 14 points. [player_tooltip player_id='1285492' first='Lee' last='Marks'] is an angular small forward with freakish athleticism. He used it on both ends being a monster defensively on the interior while also dunking it with force. Quickness on the glass contributed to his 11 points.

For Curie the struggles continued from last weekend. They played a ton of guys and the only things that worked were [player_tooltip player_id='1056104' first='Chikasi' last='Ofoma'] in the first half before foul trouble, a Michal Oliver Jr run, and then some juice from star guard [player_tooltip player_id='1157211' first='Carlos' last='Harris'] in the third quarter. Ofoma is a junk yard dog big man that used his strength to score inside for 8 points, but was hampered with foul trouble. The son of Curie's head coach Michael Oliver Jr. came in to give them a spark in the second quarter as he drained a pair of threes looking super confident. After struggling in the first half 2024 combo guard [player_tooltip player_id='1157211' first='Carlos' last='Harris'] stepped up pushing in transition, getting to the cup, and crashing the glass for 10 points in the loss.
