Ben Hammond Ben Hammond 5'10" | PG Paul VI | 2024 State #143 Nation VA | 5’9” PG | Paul VI ’24
Paul VI is looking like they’re perhaps the best team in the country this year, and while they have a lot of players who have put up big numbers throughout the year Hammond has been key running the show and setting the tone on both ends of the floor. He’s come up big in some of their top matchups this year including 21 points and 6 rebounds in a win over Lake Highlands at City of Palms and 15 points and 6 assists in a win over The Patrick School at the National Hoopfest at DeMatha.
Kennard Wyche Jr. | 5’8” PG | Varina ’24
Wyche was an All State performer last season for Varina’s state championship team, and with their talented senior class departing he’s has an even bigger role now and has the Blue Devils rolling early. Wyche is a two way impact floor general who sets the tone on both ends of the floor, and now that he’s looked at to score more he’s stepping up, including a 32 point 4 assist outing in a win over Hanover.
Kris Tiller Kris Tiller 6'0" | PG Glen Allen | 2024 State VA | 6’3” PG | Glen Allen ’24
Tiller has Glen Allen looking like one of the top teams in the Richmond area this year, as the junior lead guard has been on an absolute tear and is solidifying himself as one of the top guards in Richmond. He’s a smooth scoring guard who can fill it up in bunches from all over the floor, as he’s showed with performances of 31 points in their win over Church Hill Academy, 16 points in a win over Deep Run and 36 points in a win over Midlothian.
Tavarres Riley Tavarres Riley 6'1" | PG Freedom-Woodbridge | 2024 State VA | 6’3” PG | Freedom-Woodbridge ’24
Riley is one of the most talented guards in the state, and he’s showing that as he’s come out the gates on fire and is currently one of the top scorers in the state averaging 31.3 points per game for the 4-2 Eagles. He’s been very confident and come out aggressive, and has scored 20 or more in every game including 32 points in a win over West Springfield, 29 in a win over Takoma Academy, 34 in a win over Colonial Forge, 27 in a loss to Potomac, 40 in a loss to Forest Park and 26 in a win over Northern (MD).
Chance Mallory Chance Mallory 5'10" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2025 State #73 Nation VA | 5’8” PG | STAB ’25
Mallory has been on a steady incline throughout his career at STAB, and to start his sophomore season he has been on fire for a STAB team that is playing one of the toughest schedules in the state. While he isn’t the biggest guy he has one of the biggest impacts on the game, as he’s had games of 22 points in a win over Greenfield (NC), 26 points 7 rebounds 5 assists in a win over Blue Ridge, 28 points 7 rebounds 5 assists in a win over Miller School, 30 points 7 assists in a win over Landon (MD) and 24 points 7 assists in a win over Mt. Vernon (NY).
Cy Hardy Cy Hardy 5'11" | PG Nortide | 2025 State VA | 6’0” PG | Northside ‘25
Hardy was my pick for breakout player in the Roanoke area this year, as Northside usually lets their talented sophomores loose, and he’s been big for them as they sit at 3-0 and look like favorites in Class 3 right now. Hardy’s a talented and dynamic scoring guard who can score it from all over, and he went for 20 points and 4 steals in their convincing win over their rival and reigning Class 3 state champs Cave Spring.
