MADISON -- Breaking down the top 10 individual performers from the 60Eight Tournament at Madison College...

[player_tooltip player_id='1203253' first='Brady' last='Corso'] - 2024 - SG - Neenah

Corso was almost unreal in a semifinal win over Waunakee. The junior guard came out and scored or assisted on 16 of the first 20 points for Neenah. Corso would finish with 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting, including 7-of-9 from 3-point range in just 30 minutes. Corso was also solid in the title game loss to Joliet West, going for 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists. I don't think there was any doubt that Corso was the best outside shooter in the event. Corso is so good at relocating once the defense reacts to dribble penetration. Corso not only makes himself available to teammates, but defenders have to find him after helping on the drive.

[player_tooltip player_id='1562176' first='Jeremy' last='Fears'] - 2023 - PG - Joliet West

When it's time to take over games, Fears just has a different gear he can get to. In two games, Fears was relatively quiet for about 1.5 of them. However, in the title game against Neenah, the Michigan State signee showed why he's a four-star and consensus top 50 prospect. Fears just has a unique ability to freeze defenders with his electric stop and start ability on the ball. Fears had a huge second half on Saturday, scoring all 24 of his points in the final period. Fears got downhill for some high percentage buckets and closed the game out at the free throw line. He finished 12-of-14 from the charity stripe and tallied five rebounds and two assists as well. In the semifinals versus La Crosse Central, Fears added 14 points and seven dimes.

[player_tooltip player_id='1385291' first='Jeremiah' last='Fears'] - 2025 - PG - Joliet West

Loved that fears never lost faith in his outside shot and got better as the tournament wore on. Saw him struggling early against La Crosse Central's zone, but he kept shooting. Once one went down...it was one. The sophomore guard finished with a combined 42 points in two games. That came on 14-of-31 shooting, including 7-of-16 from downtown. Fears was big in the final minutes against La Crosse Central to put that game away. He also got Joliet West off to a fantastic start against Neenah, scoring 14 of his 21 points in the first half. Fears is more than just a shooter. He's very sneaky and slithery in the pick n' roll. Fears does a great job of going shoulder to shoulder with the pick man and can just weave around into areas that you don't expect to set up a lob or a mid-range jumper.

[player_tooltip player_id='1022499' first='Bennett' last='Fried'] - 2023 - SF - La Crosse Central

Fried bounced back from a rough first game to lead La Crosse Central to a blowout win over Waunakee. The 6-foot-7 senior posted a double-double in the third place game with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Fried was 12-of-17 from the floor and also had two blocks. Still not anywhere near his ceiling, Fried continues to show flashes with his ability to handle the ball and size up his man on the perimeter. Really like Fried when he's aggressive off the ball, cutting hard and trying to get into high percentage areas, rather than forcing his offense on the ball. Fried can still shoot it really well and has a ton of defensive versatility which makes him a very strong pickup at the Division 3 level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1409364' first='Peter' last='Lattos'] - 2023 - SF - West Salem

Lattos just came out and put it on Verona. The senior wing 20 points, five rebounds, and two assists in his 30 minutes of action. Still on the board, Lattos is a nice Division 2 prospect. He's got excellent positional size at 6-foot-7, is a smooth and dangerous outside shooter, and can score from all three levels depending on his matchup. Love Lattos' ability to shoot on the move or off-balance. He doesn't need to fully set his feet or square himself to the rim in order to get a decent look. Defensively is where I don't think he gets enough credit either. Lattos is a sneaky athlete that blocks shots and plays the passing lanes very well. I've never seen him quiet on that end of the floor.

Brett McConkey - 2023 - PF - West Salem

McConkey dropped 17 points and 14 rebounds in West Salem's 81-60 win over Verona. Going back to his West Salem's state tournament runner-up finish last season, McConkey is just a kid that sets a tone for his team. You can count on him to do the dirty work inside, create second chance opportunities, and force teams to play from outside the paint. His team doesn't really run offense for him and if McConkey is getting 13 shot attempts, you're in trouble. Of McConkey's 14 rebounds, eight were on the offensive glass. He also quietly dished out four assists in Saturday's victory.

[player_tooltip player_id='1702897' first='Henry' last='Meyer'] - 2024 - SG - La Crosse Central

Meyer came out of nowhere this week. The junior guard was a bench player for the River Hawks last season and averaged 2.8 points per game. After this weekend, he's now putting up nearly 16 points per contest alongside two senior college prospects. There was a long stretch in the Joliet West game where they could not stop Meyer. A 6-foot-1, strong, athletic guard, Meyer does a great job of getting to the rim in limited dribbles. He utilizes pump fakes at a very high level to get defenders off their feet and also has some surprising bounce to evade or go over shot blockers. I know next to nothing about him, but based on his build and athletic ability, would venture to say Meyer is a very good two or three-sport athlete that hasn't put all of his focus on basketball. In two games, Meyer scored 26 points on just 18 shots. He also averaged 5.0 rebounds from the guard position.

[player_tooltip player_id='1156904' first='Drew' last='Murphy'] - 2025 - F - Verona

Murphy had some of his best stretches of basketball that I've seen. Against a really tough West Salem squad, the sophomore forward had 15 points, two assists, four rebounds, and a block. He struggled with turnovers, but Murphy get Verona around for a while in a game where his team didn't shoot the ball well. Murphy started to tap into his mismatch problem ability, getting two feet in the paint off the bounce where he could get rhythm jumpers or distribute the basketball. A 6-foot-6 combo forward that's still pretty raw, Murphy shows flashes of an inside-out player who can shoot in the pick n' pop game, operate with his back to the basket, or size up a defender and create something in isolation.

[player_tooltip player_id='1289029' first='Jackson' last='Schlomann'] - 2023 - G/W - Neenah

Neenah was +31 with Schlomann on the floor in Friday's semifinal win over Waunakee. It's not hard to believe when you watch him on the floor. Schlomann is the x-factor for the Rockets and does so many little things to help them win. Also thought his presence was subtly important against Joliet West, who tried to pressure Corso and [player_tooltip player_id='963148' first='Cal' last='Klesmit'] with the Fears brothers. As an extra ballhandler, Schlomann could alleviate that pressure and get some favorable matchups where he was able to get downhill and kick out to shooters. Schlomann had 11 points, eight rebounds, and five assists against Joliet West. In the semifinals against Waunakee, Schlomann tallied 14 points, six assists, five boards, and two steals. Schlomann definitely put himself into the 2023 rankings this past weekend. He can play on or off the ball, but I really like Schlomann as a bigger point guard and decision maker.

[player_tooltip player_id='1349129' first='Nic' last='Williams'] - 2023 - PG - La Crosse Central

Williams had 18 points in a semifinal loss to Joliet West. He followed that up with 16 points and four assists in a win over Waunakee on Saturday. Have always just liked the way Williams carries himself. He's not flashy. His game doesn't speak loudly. But he's pretty darn effective. Williams is very difficult to guard and stay in front of with his length and ability to cover a lot of ground. Defenders try and guide him certain directions or take away his dominant hand and Williams is still able to get by. Once he gets into the paint, Williams has a deadly floater. He's heavily reliant and effective on placing the ball up on the rim with touch and not allowing shot blockers to impact it. Not that he can't shoot it, but you almost never see him take a jumper and definitely don't see Williams settle for a bad shot. Williams also had a combined six assists in two games.
