Halocek is maybe the least known of the bunch but he has eclipsed 30 points three times in five total games to start the season. Here’s a closer look at some of the best early season performances.
He was my pick to win the class 2A scoring title. At least he was one of them. After showing off his scoring skills as a junior and topping 40 points he went a decade higher with 54 in a game earlier this season vs Ridgefield. It all starts with his effortless range and beautiful looking shot that he will take from well beyond the three point line. I used the Stephen Curry comparison once before because he changes games with his shooting which opens the door for a lot of other things to happen. All good things as he is proficient in the mid-range game as well. He is excellent at reading and setting up the defense for himself or his teammates. He can make a lot happen with a head fake and one or two dribbles, if he doesn’t decide to take it all the way to the hoop. He has one of the most effortless shots in all of Washington high school basketball.
Taking over as the main scoring option for Camas this year, the hard work has been paying off for him. He dropped 44 points in a game. He hit 12 threes in the same game. He is a pure shooting point guard who can create with the best of them. He has made that next step in becoming an elite scoring guard and does everything well. He has tight handles and is crafty around the rim. He played with a cast on one arm this summer for a time and was still able to dominate with one hand. Perhaps all players should try this since it has helped them to realize his scoring potential and made them even more creative than he was before. He is not just a scorer, as I said he plays point guard most of the time and can get his teammates involved with his great floor vision and basketball IQ. He is only a sophomore and the progression seems to be leading to him becoming a big-time prospect in the state of Washington. He has also scored 27 points twice this season, with 6 more triples in one of those games.
Scored 39 in a 73-70 loss to Kentwood. This kid is a scoring machine. Last year he averaged nearly 30 points a game as a sophomore. He is somewhat of a wizard with the ball in his hands as he consistently converts tough drives to the hoop with no lack of creativity. He sets up the defense extremely well and you have to honor his three-point prowess, making him tough to guard as an all-level scorer. He is great on the open floor and can finish with his wizardry around the hoop. He loves to get himself the best shot possible and for him, that is any of several shots that he has put the time into building his craft.

He started the season with some big games and it is not by accident. He is averaging nearly 30 points a game. He has had games of 37 points, 34, and 32 already. He is 41-52 from the line in 5 games. That is a pretty insane stat line. Over 10 free throws, in a game in high school, is tough to do. He has also made 2 threes per game and is averaging 29 points and 7 rebounds per game on the season for East Valley of Spokane. All the while shooting 57% from the field. An impressive start to the season.
His first two games of the year were 27 and 12 and 30 and 14 rebounds. The latter in a two-point win over Mark Morris on 11-13 from the field and 6-8 from the line. He is stepping up even bigger this year and proving that he belongs as one of the best players in the state. He is active, has some great moves in the paint, and can step out and hit the jumper. He is a high-motor player who will get after it and rebounds extremely well.
