Fans in this state follow high school basketball passionately enough that they generally know the top players in the state. The Mr. Basketball candidates are well known. Most people could put together their prediction for what the Indiana All-Star team will look like. Even some of the top underclassmen are household names as they are being recruited by top high-major programs. However, most folks are going to be very familiar with the incoming freshman class. Due to the success of our annual Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase, we have a great handle on the young prospects. Let’s take a look at some of the top names you will be hearing about right away this winter.
Anytime you come across a prospect at this size and this age you are going to be intrigued. Crews is a legitimate 6’8″-6’9″ that can be a force around the basket as he continues to grow into his body. He is still relatively new to the game and very raw, but the size is something you cannot teach. Right now he finishes at the rim, can rebound his area, and does a good job of impacting shots around the basket defensively. It is obviously a work in progress, but there are some raw tools to work with here.
The Region has some serious size in the Class of 2026. Harbin is a massive body inside at 6’9″ with soft hands and some obvious raw skills that will continue to translate at a high level as he gets more comfortable in his body. He can rebound his area well and gets in the way of a lot of shot attempts at the rim. Offensively, he can score some on the roll in ballscreen situations and will finish when his man steps up to help on a drive. Will be fun to see how he develops over the years.
Arguably the top prospect in Indiana’s Class of 2026, Steven Reynolds III is a really special talent. At 6’4″ he has guard level skill, is an extremely fluid athlete, and shows the ability to score it in a variety of ways. He can initiate the offense as a playmaker while also knocking down shots from beyond the arc. Reynolds flashes some high-level passing ability as well. He will make an instant impact for South Bend Washington who could be an under-the-radar team in Class 3A this season.
