Here are some of my top takeaways from the Rockford Public Schools Tipoff Classic. Games were held art Guilford and Auburn high schools in Rockford, IL.

Lots of Growth from [player_tooltip player_id='1385300' first='Antonio' last='Munoz']

From the opening tip, there was something about [player_tooltip player_id='1385300' first='Antonio' last='Munoz'] that looked different. But this was in a good way. I saw Munoz and Whitney young in full swing against Rockford East Tuesday evening. The 2025 forward began the opening contest with a spin-move leading to a jam. Throughout the game, he displayed some quick hands and dominated the boards. Munoz started the second half with two more dunks, with a windmill dunk coming later on. Munoz finished that contest with 12 points and 6 boards and scored 8 points the next day against Auburn. It will be exciting to see his development throughout the season.

Davis-Johnson Duo Excites Me

[player_tooltip player_id='939057' first='Dalen' last='Davis'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1048324' first='Daniel' last='Johnson'] are playing their third season together for Whitney Young. The two played vital roles on a squad that placed 2nd in 4A last March. [player_tooltip player_id='939057' first='Dalen' last='Davis'] has so many qualities that make him an elite floor general in Illinois. The Princeton commit opened the Rockford East game with a smooth 3-point jumper and then found Johnson for several baskets to give Young a comfortable early lead. Johnson finished an alley-oop slam from Davis in the first quarter and knocked down three outside shots. Johnson dropped 18 points and 10 boards in the game I watched. The next day, he scored 1t5 points with six boards. [player_tooltip player_id='939057' first='Dalen' last='Davis'] scored 15 points and had 5 assists to down Auburn Wednesday afternoon.

Cinco Gary an Emerging Rockford Prospect to Watch

In two games I watched, I was really impressed with the effort inside from Guilford 2024 F Cinco Gary. Gary shined bright a tough battle against Memphis's Frederick Douglass. He gave Guilford an early lead in the game with several inside buckets that heavily contested. After a big Douglass run, more inside play from Gary got them back in it. He got to the line and showed off some solid midrange play. On defense, he had a strong transition block off the glass and several more steals. On Saturday, I saw more of the same from Gary. Numerous inside buckets and solid defensive work. I saw him more active on the boards too. He finished with 16 points in his second matchup.

East St. Louis Takes over Rockford

The Flyers have dominated the St. Louis area for a long time. This weekend, they took their show to Rockford and went 4-0 against elite Rockford Talent. They dominated the day Saturday with two blowout wins over Rockford Jefferson and Rockford Guilford. On Saturday, they went to the wire with some tougher games against Rockford Auburn and East, but still got the job done. Kansas St. Commit [player_tooltip player_id='939073' first='Macaleab' last='Rich'] looks bigger and stronger. He made numerous athletic plays at the rim that surprised the crowd. He averaged nearly 20 points per contest in four games. His large frame created so many mismatches and he surely took advantage of that. Cal St. Fullerton Commit [player_tooltip player_id='1537979' first='Antwan' last='Robinson'] also impressed. He showed he can score efficiently at all three levels. Robinson knocked down four three's in their opening matchup over Jefferson.

New Clark Duo Ready for CPS

Clark graduated lots of key pieces to arguably their best team in program history. But after watching a runaway win over Harlem, I've Identified a new duo to look out for on the west side of Chicago. The first player that excites me is [player_tooltip player_id='1215314' first='Cordy' last='Johnson']. The 2024 Point Guard went on a tear to start the game. He knocked down numerous outside shots with confidence and broke past defenders for more easy buckets Friday night. He entered double figures after just a few minutes. Later in the game, I saw Johnson become a solid playmaker and gave his teammates lots of easy opportunities to score. Another player to watch is Katrell Weekly. The 2024 Wing-Forward was dominant on the interior and scored 20 points vs Harlem. He displayed so much physicality on both ends and created numerous second-chance opportunities.

Look out for Auburn Freshman

Rockford Auburn has two exciting freshman to watch. 2026 Amir Danforth, the nephew of Fred VanFleet, is a crafty point guard who can create his own shot. He started his career off with a bang. Scoring 18 points to earn a win over Douglas (TN). Danforth averaged 14 points per game throughout the week. Another freshman, [player_tooltip player_id='2105407' first='Champ' last='Parker'], loves to share the rock and get himself open for easy buckets. He scored 12 points in the opening contest and 9 points against Whitney Young. On Saturday, he scored 8 points against East St. Louis.

Here are some of my top takeaways from the Rockford Public Schools Tipoff Classic. Games were held art Guilford and Auburn high schools in Rockford, IL.
