Young has always been listed as a shooter and while he made shots, it was how he impacted the game in other areas that stood out to me. Young is a leader on a younger Centennial squad and made some impressive plays to help his team win while also calming down his teammates. Young did get the bank to open over the weekend a few times on jumpers, but his shot-making was impressive as Whitehall keyed in on him to stop defensively. Small college programs should be taking a close look at Young this winter.
Bagley is a prospect who got a lot of attention during scrimmages for Whitehall but this was my first opportunity to scout him. The talent is obvious when you first watch him play with impressive athleticism and ball skills. Bagley made some tough jumpers but settles for contested shots often instead of trying to get all the way to the basket. Bagley will also benefit from playing on the grassroots circuit with more talented guards to take some creation pressure off his shoulders and force him to be more careful with his shot selection. Bagley is one of the more talented guards in central Ohio’s 2025 class and will be a prospect to monitor down the line.
McCall is a bigger point guard who impacts the game in a variety of ways. Standing at 6’3 McCall has a height advantage on most guys who are guarding him and uses this to see over the defense and make excellent passes with his impressive vision. McCall also made an impact defensively in this one, with multiple steals, blocks and lockdown possessions. McCall struggles to shoot it from the outside and finish with his left hand, improving just one of those skills will allow him to score the basketball much easier.
Griffin was efficient from the floor, making a high percentage of his jumpers in Columbus South’s victory over New Albany. A smaller guard, Griffin has a spark when it’s in his hands and can get hot from the outside in a hurry. I hope Griffin grows because with his shot-making ability and quickness he has the potential to be a scholarship prospect. Regardless, Griffin will be an excellent high school player for the next couple seasons.
Perkins didn’t miss a shot for the Warriors, having his coming out party in his season debut as a sophomore. Perkins hit a circus shot to end a quarter and was efficient with his shots, taking open looks that were usually created by an upperclassman. Perkins is a quick guard who got where he needed to on the floor to make plays for himself or teammates and looked very comfortable next to Wayne’s established star guards. I expect Perkins to play a key role as Wayne should be one of the strongest teams in SW Ohio this season.
