Continue ReadingA 5-11 combo guard who showcased last year that he can be an elite shooting threat, Drea averaged 11.9 points and 2.8 assists while shooting 43% from behind the arc as a junior. Throughout his time in Ankeny, he was more of a pure point guard who looked to get others involved first and foremost, and while he still has those lead guard abilities as a ball-handler, decision-maker, and passer, the added shooting ability is a major asset.
An athletic wing defender with length, Jallah can defend multiple spots on the perimeter and has the length and athleticism to occasionally drop down into the paint and defend against bigger bodies as well. Offensively, he’s a slashing wing with great body control and finishing around the bucket who shot 59% from the floor as a junior while averaging 12.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. He’ll have the ball in his hands more as a senior following the graduation of Armonniey Thomas.
Cantrall’s numbers last season weren’t eye-popping – 8.8 points, 2.8 rebounds – but he’s one of the best shooters in the state, knocking down nearly 44% of his 3-point attempts as a junior, which when paired with his tremendous size and length, makes him an intriguing college prospect. He should have a big senior year for a Rams team that will be among the most improved teams in 4A.
A 6-3 off-ball guard with a scorer’s mentality, Costello has a quick trigger off the catch and moves really well without the ball in his hands to find spaces in the defense to get his shot off. He has steadily improved as a playmaking threat as well, dishing out 2.4 assists a game last season and showing that he can create shots not only for himself, but others.
Highlights
A physical wing who embraces contact and will contribute at a high level on the glass, Aguirre averaged 10.6 points and 5.0 rebounds a game as a sophomore for a very balanced and deep Hawks team. He’s a talented lefty who can put the ball on the floor to create for himself and others, and if he can add some consistency to his jumper, watch out.
A quick shot-creating guard, Brooks averaged 14.3 points and 4.2 rebounds for the Polar Bears last season. He’s a good ball-handler who uses a quick first step to blow by defenders and get to the rim, where he’s a creative finisher. He should have a big senior year for North.
Mauro averaged a team-high 13.3 points a game last season for the Maroons, showing the ability to score from all three levels and get to the free-throw line at a high clip. He’ll be asked to be even more of a playmaker this season.
