Copas has impressed me each time I’ve seen him play and continues to establish himself as the top prospect from southeast Ohio’s 2024 class. Copas is an impressive scorer and does so efficiently in a variety of settings. I was impressed with how Copas uses his body as protection when attacking the basket and leveraging angles on drives. He might not be the most athletic guard, but his sense of the defense and shot blockers helps him finish against longer and more athletic defenders.
Lipkins was one of the most talented prospects at the event and showed off his natural scoring ability. One of the youngest prospects in Ohio’s 2024 class, Lipkins has a lot of future upside to reach. I was impressed with the explosive athleticism Lipkins showed with a couple breakaway dunks in the game I caught. Look for Lipkins to lead GlenOak to try and keep pace in a competitive Federal league.
Brown was impressive with his defensive effort on Saturday, showing off a side to his game I got to see for the first time. As a weakside rim protector, Brown flew over and blocked some shots with his wingspan and impressive physical tools. Solon graduates some key pieces but brings back both Brown and Rayquan Thompson Rayquan Thompson 6’0″ | PG Solon | 2023 State OH , it’ll be interesting to see how the Comets compete in the GCC this season.
One of the top shooters and scorers at the event, Nigro was getting it done from behind the 3-point line and at the rim. Nigro has a quick release and you need to get into his face to prevent him from letting it fly. I also was impressed with his finishing around the basket, using his 6’4 frame to outmuscle defenders. Nigro is pretty left hand dominant right now, developing a right hand to attack and finish with would add to his potential as a prospect.
Highlights
One of the few committed prospects from this event, Collins was getting after it as an isolation scorer for his team. Tough to keep in front and with the athleticism and strength to finish once he gets a step, Collins was giving the defense fits all morning. I expect Collins to be one of the top players in the Licking County League this winter, trying to lead Utica to one of their best seasons in school history in 2022-23.
