Brunswick graduated arguably the best back-court duo in the state last season but the Blue Devils still have guys who can light it up from long distance with Matus and rising freshman [player_tooltip player_id='3635129' first='Aaron' last='Ash']. Matus had a big weekend scoring off the ball by hitting set shots and attacking closeouts. Matus found it easiest to attack the rim in transition as Brunswick transitions from defense to offense rapidly. In sudden death double overtime Vs Gahanna, Matus hit the game-winning 3-pointer to lift his team to a win. Expect Matus to breakout in northeast Ohio this winter.

A strong forward who plays bigger than his listed height, Hunt is a load to stop in the paint. Scoring the first five points of the game, Hunt showed off his inside-outside game with a time and space 3-pointer followed by a strong layup. His aggressiveness also forced the defense to foul him a handful of times on shots, going up through contact in the paint. Upper Arlington will once again be a tough out in central Ohio with their guard talent and the emergence of Hunt could be a big boost to them this season.

Gahanna has a ton of young talent ready to breakout this season and Blackmon was a standout performer on Friday for the young squad. Blackmon is a talented ball handler who can get to a variety of spots on the court off the dribble and create shots for himself and his teammates. Late in the game, Blackmon was the guy Gahanna relied on to create shots and eventually send the game to overtime with timely buckets. I'm incredibly excited to follow this Gahanna core throughout their careers.

Another young prospect ready to emerge for Gahanna, McNeal had a couple of and-1 finishes on the interior and did a nice job of moving without the basketball to make himself available on drives by the Gahanna guards. Sometimes bigs can clog the lane when their guards drive and draw help but McNeal had a couple smart cuts off the ball that resulted in open layups and a few and-1 finishes off late contests.

Pickerington North is adjusting with a new lineup that has some young pieces and new faces on the Panthers roster. Starks individually had an impressive weekend in Columbus as he showed off his length, athleticism and improved ball handling ability. Starks makes quick and decisive decisions with the ball in his hands and had a couple rip and go moves and also a double crossover move to score. Long way till the season and I expect Pickerington North to gel and be ready to contend again with the best in central Ohio.

Padua has a talented young core who impressed on Friday. Smith is a crafty finisher at the rim who can hang in the air, switch hands and use pivots to find angles. Smith had multiple scoring explosions on Friday as his offensive production is extremely impressive for a 2029 guard. Padua will be a team to watch over the next few years as their young talent develops.
