About Ja’Corey
Expert Analysis
Andrew Baxley | Prep Hoops Scout
Ja’Corey is an unsigned senior who left a good impression with his play in Hoover this weekend. He is a lefty shooter who had two good performances in the final two games of Session 2, going for 15 Points on 3-5 3FG against Upward Stars and 20 Points on 3-6 3FG against Team Loaded NC. Lipkins is also very comfortable making plays off the dribble when run off the three-point line, particularly finishing with his beautiful floater. On the defensive end, his strong frame allows him to be an asset as well.

One of the top unsigned seniors in Ohio, Lipkins is one of the youngest prospects in Ohio’s 2024 class. A quick guard who is best in the open court, Lipkins will fit in well with an up-tempo run and gun style of play at the college level. His ability to get to the lane and hit rhythm jumpers is impressive as Lipkins is putting up big time scoring numbers in the Federal league this season. Due to his age, Lipkins might be able to benefit from a redshirt, JUCO or post grad year to further acclimate his body to the college game and continue to develop a feel in the half-court. With tons of talent on the ball and impressive physical tools, Lipkins has received a lot of Division II interest already. We’ll see where he ends up after the high school season, a name we’ll continue to monitor going forward.

In what was the most hyped-up game of the day, GlenOak got a signature victory over Mentor in a fast-paced game that featured a lot of highlights and standout performers. This up-tempo style fit what Lipkins wants to do and he stuffed the stat sheet with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Able to use his athleticism and burst in transition, Lipkins got a handful of layups on the fast break. As a shooter, Lipkins hit some off the catch shots when they fell to him but was inconsistent off the bounce with pull-ups. With Lipkins athleticism and ability to play on or off the ball, he’s one of northeast Ohio’s top guards in the senior class. Low Major, Division II and NAIA programs that play with a fast tempo should look at Lipkins. In addition to Lipkins, I was very impressed with Reese Zerger Reese Zerger 6'5" | C GlenOak | 2025 State OH and Issa White Issa White 6'0" | CG GlenOak | 2026 OH from GlenOak, two players that will be key in their push for a Federal League title.

Lipkins has flown a little under the radar in Ohio, playing with a Phenom United 17 U squad that was all Kentucky prospects alongside him in July. After his big game at Rock Hill against Midwest Basketball Club I expected some more recruiting buzz around his name. Expect scholarship programs to get involved sooner rather than later with Lipkins, he’s one of the most talented guards in northeast Ohio.

A prospect I’ve been high on for a long time, Lipkins is one of Ohio’s youngest 2024 prospects and came in clutch for Team Phenom United in their victory over Midwest Basketball Club to advance to the elite 8 of the 17 U championship. Lipkins knocked down five 3-pointers and shot the ball with confidence from the outside. The biggest shot of the game came when Lipkins knocked down a spot-up 3-pointer with just under 10 seconds to play to put his team up two. Standing out in front of a handful of Division II and Low Major coaches, expect a spike in Lipkins recruitment very soon.

Lipkins is one of the youngest players in the 2024 class and after a breakout sophomore campaign, he’s taken over a leadership role for a GlenOak team that’s really surprised some people in northeast Ohio and the federal league this season. Lipkins was making some tough shots off the bounce and is a good rhythm shot maker. While he generally struggled to create a ton of space off the bounce, he had one blow by that got him right to the rim. I like that Lipkins can finish with either hand around the basket and despite shooting left-handed, actually seems more comfortable with his right hand at the rim. GlenOak also has some quality 2025 pieces in their rotation, with all these guys returning next season I have high hopes for them in 2023-24.

Lipkins was one of the most talented prospects at the event and showed off his natural scoring ability. One of the youngest prospects in Ohio’s 2024 class, Lipkins has a lot of future upside to reach. I was impressed with the explosive athleticism Lipkins showed with a couple breakaway dunks in the game I caught. Look for Lipkins to lead GlenOak to try and keep pace in a competitive Federal league.

Lipkins was explosive as heck and nearly crossed a guy out of the gym. His crossover and overall handle was elite and incredibly tough to stay in front of. Anticipates defensively and moves with the ball to cutoff drives. Certainly looking like a LM/D2 level prospect for college coaches.
