So instead, I’m opting to break down prospects by area. Here’s a look at the top players in Lexington and surrounding areas. This list is not meant to be a ranking of best college prospects. More of a list of best overall players in the area.
Reece is a legitimate 7 footer who can score around the basket or our past the three point line. Miami Ohio got a steal when they landed his commitment as he had early offers from multiple high major schools.
Jerone is the reigning KHSAA State MVP and will return with his sights set on going back to back with both the state title and the MVP trophy. The lefty is outstanding off the bounce and a good enough shooter to keep defenses honest.
Johnson is an athletic combo guard who embraces the big moment and his opportunity to the the big shot. Jasper has seen his college stock take off this past year and is nationally ranked by everyone these days.
McCrear gobbled up nearly double figure D1 offers this summer before committing to Murray State and he still hasn’t even started to scratch the surface of his potential. If there is a player on this list to buy future stock in, it’s John.
Another long term potential play, Trent gets better and better every time I see him. Long and athletic with outstanding defensive timing, Edwards is a potential Mid Major D1 wing forward. It will be interesting to see where he ultimately signs for college.
Highlights
Moreno has a long list of high major suitors right now and is nationally ranked by most everyone. This ranking is designed to be a mix of college potential and high school production and Malachi could easily be number one this season if he has the breakout season some expect from him.
Another player from Great Crossing who holds multiple D1 offers, Dawson was actually the leading scorer for the Warhawks last season and has high major potential once he gets more of a killer instinct on offense.
Highlights
It seems like Jaylen has been playing for Madison Central for a decade! He’s a sniper from deep and has improved exponentially off the dribble since his freshman season. Some college will get a steal with Davis on signing day.
Highlights
Custard has been known to put the team on his back in basketball and football at Harrison over the last 2 seasons and this year should be no different. Multiple D1 schools have inquired but he’s still waiting on his first offer.
Highlights
Rose is an athletic shooting guard who holds an early offer from South Alabama and interest from all other levels. He has broken out for a couple of big scoring games over the last year and will be looking to carry a lot of the offensive burden for Madison Southern this season.
