Although most teams are missing pieces this time of the year due to players participating in fall sports, this is a good opportunity to get a very early look of what upcoming team may look like along with the future of the program. This open gym report comes out of the 12th region, the West Jessamine Colts.
Daniel Waters
Daniel Waters
Waters is a strong, physical wing that can play 1-5. At the next level, his position is more of a stretch 4. Can score at all 3 levels with 3pt range. Good shooter off the catch. Very effective putting the ball on the floor going either direction to finish thru contact. Not the quickest guy in the gym but does a great job getting guys on his hip on drives using his strength. Has good leaping ability, he finished a couple dunks. Waters is set to lead the Colts again in scoring after averaging 16.7 PPG last season.
Murphy was impressive during the open gym. He is a quick, shifty PG with really good vision and handle. Seems like the game comes natural to him. He hit a couple tough shots from deep. Was at his best when he could get in rhythm off the dribble to score. Very crafty around the basket and has good touch. As he continues to develop and grow he will be one of the better players in the state by his junior or senior year.
Kayden Floyd
Kayden Floyd
Floyd is a big that can play both under the basket and on the perimeter. Good pick and pop threat that can shoot off the catch. Good body for only being a freshman. Was good around the basket and looks to have a good IQ for the game. Could see him giving some valuable minutes this season.
Campbell Brown
Campbell Brown
Brown is a long wing that has good versatility. More of a wing than a big. 3pt shooter off the catch. Didn’t showcase a lot but you could see the potential. Will continue to get better as he gets stronger.
KaVon Lyvers
KaVon Lyvers
Lyvers showed some spurts where he could be very good. He’s a quick athlete that puts pressure on the defense off the dribble. Good 3pt shooter off the catch. Has a good compact shot. Struggled finishing around the rim but loved how he could get to the paint when he wanted. Very good in transition. Another young prospect to keep an eye on.
Outlook: Coach Kelley has a good core returning to compete again in the 12th region. Having Daniel Waters back is huge and a good young group to help will make them one of the better contenders to win the region. They could make a deep postseason run.
