Vasean Allette is legit
Allete spent the summer wreaking havoc on the UAA Circuit averaging 23.7 points per game for Canada Elite. He proved himself once again against the stout competition controlling the game for his team. He broke his defender down off the bounce in iso’s, got to the rim quickly in transition and hit his fair share of shots from three. There were times where he settled for tough jumpers where he was heavily contested, but with the rate that he makes things happen on the offensive end, you learn to live with some of the more insufficient attempts at this point. He recently cut his list to 10 programs and should be a candidate to move up in all national rankings.
Daquan Davis Daquan Davis 6'1" | PG Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #119 Nation GA took over
Davis’ career has been well-documented on this site, but the strides that he’s taken over the last five months has evolved his game into another level. The 6-foot-1 guard is as tough as they come and is always willing to defend the opposing team’s best guard battle on the glass and get on the floor for 50/50s. He’s always had ability to finish around the basket through contact with regularity, but now has a jumper that the defender has to account for at all times. Davis took over in the 3rd place game where he hit over a handful of triples, caused a slew of deflections and made plays for others while getting into the paint. We saw Davis’ recruitment start to take off in June and I’d assume that more high majors will get involved throughout his time playing for St. John’s (DC) in the WCAC.
Carlton Carrington Carlton Carrington 6'4" | CG St. Frances | 2023 State #84 Nation MD adding to his game
The headline isn’t to say that Carrington didn’t have an off the dribble game before this weekend, but watching how comfortable and confident he operated as a primary ball-handler was very impressive. In this process, he did a nice job of approaching the game with balance of scoring and distributing. Carrington is a fundamental player who uses dribbles for profit and while he had to set up the offense in a half-court, he still didn’t overdribble. Carrington got rid of the ball, moved well without it and was ready to make a decision on his attack a split second after the catch. He’d get to spot in the mid-range, stop on a dime and knock down shots with good body control. The Pitt commit made his defender pay for not getting an arms length beyond the arc or used a pump fake to get them off balance where he’d get to the rim quickly and finish. This year’s St. Frances team will have Carrington, Jahn Lamothe and Tyler Jackson Tyler Jackson 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2025 #40 Nation MD in the backcourt, so much of the ball handling duties will be by committee, but Carrington showed ability to take on the heavier load with his performance this weekend.
Kyron Henderson is a name to note
When I received the roster and read that Henderson will be attending Rock Creek Christian, I expected it to be a face I was familiar with. However, this wasn’t the case and it was a pleasant surprise to see a 6’7 wing/forward with a strong frame. Once the ball was tipped, it didn’t take long for Henderson to display his high-flying ability. He rose up in transition for a handful of powerful one-handed throw downs that caught the attention of the entire gym. Henderson plays with a solid motor, pursues rebounds with two hands and can defend the three or four position effectively. If all of this wasn’t enough, Henderson stepped out beyond the arc on a few occasions and knocked down three’s of the catch, which further spoke to his overall versatility. Henderson is going to be a new face to the area that should catch Division I attention very quickly.
Jacoi Hutchinson Jacoi Hutchinson 6'3" | CG IMG | 2023 State #101 Nation FL continues to put it all together
Hutchinson had an outstanding Peach Jam and played a major role in Team Takeover advancing to the championship game. He carried over his confidence and play to camp over the weekend where he put on a scoring clinic. The 6’2 guard broke down his defender in isolations, attacked with purpose coming off of high ball screens and operated in the mid-post with his back to the basket. He hit a number of smooth fadeaways towards the baseline that only high-level prospects can make routinely. Even though he was efficient from outside, he didn’t fall in love with the three and still attacked his man off the dribble where he got to the rim and finished on either side. Hutchinson had his way and proved again that this summer he has taken his game to new heights.
