I’m giving the nod to Davis as SWFL’s best player this summer and it’s not even close. While you wouldn’t have seen the FBA guard stateside this summer playing travel ball, you could find him blowing up the FIBA U18 circuit representing his home country of Great Britain. Latrell averaged 17 PPG while playing overseas, highlighted by a 30-point outing. Davis shoots the ball from behind the arc with efficiency even with defenders closing out, he’s a strong finisher and a tenacious defender. To add to his already impressive resume this summer he capped off this season playing Bronny James holding him to 2 points and scoring a respectable 16 points with a win against California Basketball Club (Sierra Canyon). I rarely label players, but this kid is special and would immediately contribute to a team at the next level. High character prospect.
6’4 Bryce Clayton Bryce Clayton 6'3" | CG Barron Collier | 2023 State FL Guard
Bryce has become one of my favorite players to watch in SWFL, he’s arguably one of the most complete packages in the 2023 class for the area. Clayton is a DEEP range threat, and SWFL’s most consistent shooter for 2023. His game doesn’t stop there, the Barron Collier Guard attacks the paint hard often finishing above the rim. Clayton boasts a 4.1 GPA and all the tools needed to play basketball at the next level.
6’4 Mikey Reyes Guard
Reyes has come a long way since I first watched him play at Gulfcoast, fast forward to now Mikey has added a couple of inches, and his hours in the gym have really paid off. Currently holding several offers after being a summer standout playing for Team Speights. Reyes is a crafty guard with a great jumper both in the midrange and behind the arc and an ability to rise up high for the dunk. Big expectations this season for Mikey Reyes and his Barron Collier squad.
6’3 Josh Similien guard
The senior guard from Naples had a solid outing this summer. Another high-character prospect and a great teammate. Simlien gets to his spots and is capable of shooting the skin off the ball from behind the arc. His one dribble pull off the pump fake proved to me something that he’s mastered. Josh displays great footwork be it with a euro and a crafty inside hand finish or a jump stop, pump fake, and floater. This guard’s bag is deep. Capable of finishing with both hands, he’s quick with the ball in transition and displays an effective handle. Josh has picked up quite a bit of interest this summer, I expect him to start picking up offers very soon.
6’3 Yohandry Ortiz Guard
Ortiz is coming off a really big summer with his SWFL Hoops team. Yohandry is a physical attacker and never backs away from contact when finishing at the rim. Added to his arsenal now is the ability to shoot the 3 ball off the dribble. The recent FBA transfer is a hard-nosed offensive threat. The backcourt duo of himself and Lattrel Davis might just be the one-two punch needed to make FBA the best team in SWFL. Time will tell, excited to watch this duo.
