Eldric Barnes- Aldine High School, 2023
Eldric was quite the difference maker for his club this weekend, playing a critical role in their three games on Saturday. I was very impressed by his knowledge of the court, being able to expand his game to be a facilitator, post, and shooter all in one. He never put his head down and kept pushing till the buzzer sounded, even in facing adversity. Eldric had his most impressive game against the 365 Elite team, scoring every chance he got and just having his way in the post, coming away with 19 points and 11 rebounds, pulling down a double-double. Against an aggressive Mo City Ballers squad, Eldric played more of a facilitator role and was still able to greatly impact his teams game in a positive way, despite the loss. Coaches, keep this man on you radar as he is a very physical player and is able to play any role his team needs from him.
Eric Boateng Jr- Katy Paetow High School, 2023
Eric was definitely a key hustle player for H-Town in this tournament, always fighting for loose balls and crashing the glass on both ends of the court. He was very effective as an emotional leader as well as being vocal on defense. Eric scored 10 points and dished out 7 assists against a a 365 Elite team in a very impressive game, where he also finished with 6 rebounds. Against Mo City Ballers in a very physical game, Eric played a key role on the defensive side, shutting down some of the other teams most prominent players. Coaches, watch out for this defensive specialist and hustle player.
Willie Shepherd- Klein High School, 2023
Willie was an excellent facilitator of the offense for his Gliders squad in the two contests I watched him run the point. He was always knowledgeable about the pace of the game and understood when to push the fastbreak or slow down the pace. He would often be one of the break starters, rebounding the ball off the defensive end and then his vision would find one of his teammates down the court ready to receive the pass. Willie also played the role of a knock down shooter, going 6/12 on 3 pointers in his two games against the Ballers and 365 Elite. Coaches, look no further than Willie for a guard that knows how to control the pace of play and has elite vision as well as high shooting percentages.
Cameron Dotrey- Klein Cain High School, 2023
Cameron was effective on the glass during Saturday’s games and played a key role for the Gliders in securing as many rebounds as he did, totaling 18 rebounds between two contests. He also showed a light touch underneath the basket, scoring 8 points in his first game. Dotrey was not afraid to make the one extra pass out from the post, always setting up his teammates to knock down open shots. I would like to see him develop a bit more of an outside touch, thus expanding making him a threat beyond the arc as well as in the post under the rim. Coaches, this man will go a long way as a dual-threat player.
Trace Mikkola- Legacy School of Sports Sciences, 2024
Trace played a very effective role coming off the bench for his team this weekend at the Alodia Crossover Classic. He was always vocal while in the game and had a sense for knowing where his teammates were on the court. Mikkola showed a very effective shooting form as well, hitting most of his threes from the perimeter and never being bothered by tough defense. Trace made an excellent guard combo with teammate Willie Shepherd, and together were nearly throwing double digit assists every game. Coaches, if you need a guard to score the ball, Trace would be a good option as he possesses elite knowledge of the game and will also keep his head up.
