These two games feature many of the best seniors in Houston whether they are committed or unsigned and gives them one last chance to showcase their talents to the general public on a bright stage. Let’s look at some of the top unsigned seniors to watch in these contests on Wednesday.
One of the most underrated seniors left that is unsigned in the city of Houston, if not the state of Texas. Let’s examine some strong points of James’ game:
- t
- Active hands-on defense. He never stops moving and is able to guard positions 1 through 5. His athleticism allows him to raise up for big time blocks and rebounds.
- Calm and patient with the ball in his hands on offense. He doesn’t force passes and will always look for the best shot possible. Can beat you driving to the basket or spotting up from midrange or three-point land.
- He is one of the best motivators and encouragers on the court. Coaches always want a natural born leader on the floor for their squad at all times. Martez does this in high school and can definitely do it at the collegiate level.
Justin Mitchell
Justin Mitchell
Justin is one of the best senior playmakers available left in Houston for the class of 2024. His heart and hustle on the court have been key to the success of his Elkins team and he looks to take that same passion to the court in college. Let’s examine some of Justin’s strong points:
- t
- His hustle play is highly underrated and cannot be strong enough. You will always catch Mitchell on the floor for loose balls and hustling for every rebound. He does more for his team than he is given credit for and will continue to make an impact with his heart for the game.
- Knows his spots well on offense. He never stops moving even without the ball and is good at taking backdoor cuts to the basket or setting off ball screens for teammates.
- He facilitates with patience and a good pace. He is very unselfish and always knows where his teammates are on the court. He can score in a variety of ways or dish to an open teammate for an easy assist.
Taurus Baugh
Taurus Baugh
Taurus was a big-time post player for Cypress Creek this year, especially in district play. He had to match up with some of the best forwards Houston has to offer and he definitely held his own every time. Let’s take a look at his strengths on the court:
- t
- Knows how to get position on the post up. He has the size and frame to box his opponent out with ease and grab rebounds over the top of his matchup.
- He can knock down midrange shots or expand his range as needed. If the defense gives him any space, he will not hesitate to drive to the rim and get to the free throw line or spot up.
- His timing to jump for blocks is key on defense. He is very disciplined and does not bite on pump fakes often.
Brett is one of the most versatile Class of 2024 guards in all of Houston. He is a player who has an arsenal of ways to score the basketball and makes every possession count. He is smart and has high level IQ of the game, while creating opportunities not just for himself but also for teammates. Here is what Norton excels at:
- t
- Brett can score the ball well from all three levels. He can finish aggressively through contact at the basket, shoot the ball over the top from long range, or pull up off the dribble and draw a foul.
- His calm and poise make him a dangerous weapon on the court at all times. He remains unfazed in crunch time each game I have watched him play and he never gets rattled but takes the game step by step whether his team has the lead or is down.
- Norton’s jumping ability and athleticism are highly underrated. He does not make an impact on just the perimeter but can crash the boards and play defense in the post as well. Brett will always be one of the most vocal players on the court.
J’Mar Franklin
J’Mar Franklin
J’Mar, in my opinion, is one of the top five best unsigned senior pure playmakers left in Greater Houston. His IQ and awareness set him apart as a pure point guard and he will continue to demonstrate that he deserves a chance at the next level. Let’s examine his game a little further:
- t
- Never forces shots or passes. He will swing the ball continuously until they get the best shot possible on offense. Franklin has no problem dribbling the ball back out and resetting to get a better look at the basket.
- J’Mar is adept at always knowing where his teammates should be on both ends. He is both the vocal leader and fundamental floor general for King. He is the master of lockdown defense and is the best playmaker on the team with the basketball in his possession.
- He remains calm, cool, and collected whether he is at the free throw line during clutch time or bringing the ball down on offense up double digits. Whatever point the game is at, he displays the same “go-getter” attitude, and every coach needs a glue guy like this on the court at all times.
