Due to an earlier flight departure. I decided to stick to one gym for Sunday’s action at Prep Hoops Live Atlanta.

That gym closer to the airport featured some of the better younger players from the deep and talented field. Flowing are the standouts from my truncated Sunday schedule.

Class of 2024

[player_tooltip player_id="1444139" first="Thon" last="Bill"] 6-8 Timothy Christian (IL) (pictured) One of the standout performers for ET21 Buckeyes all spring/summer on the Prep Hoops Circuit. Kept it up in Atlanta. The length and overall athleticism are what catches your eye initially. The rest of his game is starting to come along. Scored 16 points in a Sunday afternoon contest against a No Excuses Elite squad that featured some length of their own (see below) Runs the court extremely well. Also shows a soft touch around the basket. Has recently reclassified to the class of 2024 from 2025. With his physical upside that really doesn’t change his status as a recruit.

[player_tooltip player_id="1453932" first="Adonai" last="Mussie"] 6-9 Parkview GA) Like [player_tooltip player_id="1444139" first="Thon" last="Bill"] is a post prospect that passes the eye test in a major way. Has a very long and skinny frame. Extreme length makes him a weapon on the defensive end for No Excuses Elite. Didn’t fill up the scorebook offensively but had several impressive defensive plays. Length allowed him to use a next level close out to get the rare rejection of a three point shot. Fluid athlete who runs the court like a gazelle. When the offense catches up to the defense this could be an intriguing long term prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="1401933" first="Damien" last="Keys"] 6-1 Warren Central (IN) Sticking with the theme of our 2024 prospects. Keys is a physical guard who impacts the game on the defensive end. Does it primarily through just straight up relentless effort. One the better on ball defenders you will see. However when his INB Platinum teammate [player_tooltip player_id="1277566" first="Nick" last="Glover"] went down with an injury. He stepped up in a big way. Averaged nearly 18 point per game on the weekend. More than just points however. He is an old school stat sheet stuffer with assist, rebounds, and of course steals. Bouncy athlete who easily makes plays above the rim.

Class of 2025

[player_tooltip player_id="1371733" first="Juan" last="Guerrero Hernandez"] 6-2 Grafton (WI) I was impressed with this Wisconsin combo guard at the last Prep Hoops Live Event in Kansas City. That continued in Atlanta. Has a lanky frame that makes him appear and more importantly play larger than his listed height. Despite frame seeks out and absorbs contact well. Lived at the line in the first half of a matchup against Wisconsin Crusaders. As you would expect from the athletic profile. Is an electric finisher in the open court. Had a nice dunk off a lob to close out the aforementioned Sunday contest. Finished with 17 points for Chapman Basketball Academy in the victory. A top 15 player in the state of Wisconsin and cemented that reputation this weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id="1418511" first="Drew" last="Daoust"] 6-0 Southern Door (WI) This is a bit of cumulative award for Hernandez’s opponent in the Sunday tilt. Daoust did not have his best performance on Sunday. However was simply lights out against a good Louisiana based G4WYW squad (see below) on Saturday. Finished with 31 points in that contest. It wasn’t just some unconscious “flash in a pan” shooting performance. Did it in a wide variety of ways. Both from beyond the arc and the mid range. Also ran the point efficiently and set up teammates well. Did this against a very good and athletically explosive backcourt. Simply put one of the better performances I saw all weekend regardless of class.

Hunter Gawron 6-4 Niles North (IL) I might be showing a little home state bias. But up until Sunday the Michigan Hurricanes had been unbeaten and for the most part untested thus far on the Prep Hoops Circuit. That was until they ran into North Chicago based Powerhouse Sports and their 2-3 zone. Anchoring that zone was Gawron. Used his long arms to corral rebounds and few impressive blocks. Offensively has a soft touch around the basket. Has a thick but athletic frame. If he can add a few more inches this could be an under the radar post prospect in the next few years.

[player_tooltip player_id="1275303" first="Jordan" last="Matthews"] 5-9 Vanderbilt Catholic (LA) Really enjoyed this bouncy guard out of the Baton Rogue area. Has a tight handle and had no problems getting to his spots offensively. Despite not being the tallest prospect. Uses crafty body control to finish easily at the rim. Good first step also aided his penetration game. Both games that I watched were close and he seemed to want the ball in his hands late. Finished with 22 points in a nip and tuck defeat to a good D1 Indiana squad to close out the weekend.
