The event was held over two days from July 1-2 and featured some of the top talent in California across all classes. With around 100 or so participants, it culminated with a top 50 game and a top 25 game. I was able to watch both games and here’s a look at some of the standouts I saw in the top 50 game.
1. Brenton Banister – Santa Monica 2025
Banister stood out as a good shooter. He’s a good catch and shoot player from three-point range and he can hit the pull-up three in transition. He’s a two guard but he can handle the ball a bit and he can bring the ball up court. He’s able to shoot off the dribble; he can hit the little pull-up in the halfcourt. Gets out in transition well. He’s a good defensive player on ball, does a good job keeping up with the ball-handler and cutting them off.
2. Logan Kilbert – Sierra 2024
Kilbert also stood out as a very good shooter. Consistent range out to the three-point line. Does a good job relocating after he makes the pass. Makes the right passes too. If he’s run off the three-point line, he’s able to put the ball on the floor and attack the defense. He doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective though, he’s constantly moving off-ball and making good cuts to the rim where he finishes well.
3. Adrionne Marcus – Rancho Dominguez 2023
Marcus looks like a player that can really turn into a solid inside presence with just a bit more seasoning. He’s able to finish at the rim but he could stand to get a bit stronger in that area in halfcourt sets. He runs the floor well and has good hands, he can finish well off the catch. Rebounding is one area where he really stood out. He rebounds well in traffic and positions himself well. He’s a bit slight but he’s long and he grabs offensive rebounds for extra possessions.
4. Steven Evans-Glynn – Leuzinger 2025
Evans-Glynn is another good scoring guard with some playmaking as well. He does a good job attacking the rim in the halfcourt and finding open teammates off the dribble. Good ball-handler who can also finish at the rim through traffic. He pushes the pace well in transition. A consistent shooter from three-point range. Defensively, he does a good job on ball sliding his feet and getting his hands in the passing lanes.
