One of the bigger names that came out of the woodwork over the summer and the tourney in Auburn last weekend was Josiah. The athletic, high-caliber combo guard has all the tools to make a big splash in his senior year with Curtis after a monster junior season for Central Kitsap (23.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 2.5 spg). He’s a key guy who can play multiple positions on either end of the court, handle the ball, and score from all three levels. With a long and wired frame, he’s always a threat on the glass, has strength and mobility offensively to matchup against tough opposing wings and guards who try to take away his angles.
Peter Dress Peter Dress 6'6" | SG Kamiakin | 2024 State WA , 6’5, Wing/Forward, Kamiakin, Hooptown Elite, C/O 2024
Dress has an extremely well-rounded game and holds the ability to do a lot of things from different spots. At 6-foot-5, he can space the floor with an efficient perimeter shot and he can find holes in the defense when he cuts off the ball. I saw him post up a lot of smaller players last weekend and he has a good package of post moves he can use to score from the elbow and the low block. You can tell he has an incredibly high basketball IQ and an excellent help defender, altering shots and rotating during the tournament as Hooptown 16U won out in it’s bracket.
Anthony Canales Anthony Canales 6'4" | SG Lynden | 2024 State WA , 6’4, Guard/Wing, Lynden, Seattle Rotary, C/O 2024
As the spring and summer AAU hoops circuits have come and gone, Canales has asserted himself as one of Rotary 2024’s top guard options over that time. With long arms, he’s quick on his feet with a nice handle and he’s used that combination a lot with the ball in his hands over the weekend to blow by defenders and finish at the basket. He can shoot the 3-ball, works well out of the pick-and-roll, and has the length to guard taller perimeter players on the defensive end. The defending 2A state champ is a major breakout candidate for the high school season in the NWC.
Martin Kaupanger Martin Kaupanger 6'5" | SG Annie Wright | 2025 State WA , 6’4, Wing/Guard, Annie Wright, Seattle Rotary, C/O 2025
Martin put together an impressive freshmen season for Annie Wright and showed at the tournament that he is a swingman with a ton of upside. He has speed in the open court, can finish above the rim, and excels as a scorer in the mid range and behind the 3-point line. He’s aggressive when attacking the basket and has a wide array of finishing moves when fighting through contact. He’s a competitor on defense and his size as a guard bodes well for him as player who can play the wing position, too. He has a nose for the ball on the boards (10 rpg for Annie Wright), and always seems to be in the right place at the right time for the box out.
