Continue ReadingThe 2025 class still has a very long way to go but the early returns look like this class is a powerhouse. At this point, 7 members of the class hold at least one D1 offer and there are at least twice that many with the potential to earn D1 offers in the class before they get to graduation down the line. Here’s a look at some new names in our updated rankings.
Lawson Rice Lawson Rice 6'6" | PF Butler County | 2025 State KY , Butler County – Rice has had a breakout AAU season playing with Power Circle on the Adidas Gold circuit and has a lot of upside as a high energy forward who plays with a great motor on both ends. I was also able to see Lawson play with his high school team a couple times in June and he showed he can be more of a primary option on the offensive end. If he grows another 2 inches, he’s a D1 kid.
Lual Ayiei Lual Ayiei 6'11" | C Danville Christian Academy | 2025 State KY , Danville Christian – An international man of mystery who plays at tiny Danville Christian, Lual turned some heads at the Collins event in June and looks like he has the tools to be a D1 recruit down the line. Ayiei is 6’11 but rail thin and still learning the game but his upside is tremendous long term. Hopefully Lual will start playing AAU next year and see how he fares against higher competition.
Yamil Rondon Yamil Rondon 5'11" | PG Newport | 2025 State KY , Cooper – One of the swaggiest guards in northern Kentucky, Yamil does not lack for confidence. Rondon has a high skill level and strong basketball IQ. He’s more of a facilitator than a scorer in high school and flips those roles in AAU so he’s proven that he can do both. The 6’0 guard needs to show he can be a more consistent three point shooter but there aren’t a ton of holes in his game right now.
Jonah Butler Jonah Butler 6'6" | SF Calloway County | 2025 State KY , Calloway County – Jonah has the tools to play at a high level as he continues to develop. Part of a talented young core at Calloway, Butler is well built at 6’4 and plays with a really good motor. He’s shown he can score the ball at a high level and impressed Bruce Pearl enough in June to earn in invitation to Auburn’s elite camp this fall. Butler could be a difference maker in the 1st region this season.
Trevor Ellis Trevor Ellis 6'5" | PF Mercer County | 2025 State KY , Mercer County – Trevor plays hard and does the majority of his damage around the rim. He reminds me of former Henry County star Trevor Hardin in the sense that he makes his living as a rim runner and rebounder and will try to dunk everything he can get his hands on. Ellis needs to assume he’s done growing and start adding to his overall skill level so he can transition to the wing. That way, any added growth spurt in the future is just a bonus.
