While there’s a lot of emphasis by college coaches put on the shoe circuit teams, and for good reason, there’s always a lot of talent on independent AAU teams, especially in a state like VA. In this series, we’ll take a look at some of the top 2023 prospect at each position that don’t play on a shoe circuit team. Here’s a look at part 1 of the wings.

[player_tooltip player_id="999636" first="AJ" last="Clark"] | 6’3” WG | Team Loaded 757

Clark had a breakout junior season at Menchville where he showed a lot of improvement, and he’s continued that big time success with Loaded 757 throughout the spring. Clark is a big time athlete who brings it on both ends of the floor and can guard the other team’s best player while being a good helpside defender too who can jump passing lanes and block shots as well, he is a big time finisher above the rim in transition and he’s improved in his ability to make shots from deep and in the midrange off the bounce. He embodies toughness and finds ways to be productive every game he’s on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="999651" first="Logan" last="Rhoades"] | 6’1” WG | Team Richmond HGSL

Rhoades took a big leap his junior season when he transferred to Blue Ridge, and he’s not only a standout on the basketball court but also on the football field as well as a quarterback. The 6’1” off guard is a knock down shooter off the catch and has improved in his ability to create space and make tough shots on step backs and pull-ups, he competes on the defensive end and is an underrated athlete and he has a good feel for the game too. If he takes the same leap over the next few months he did last year he’ll be an intriguing prospect for coaches to look at.

[player_tooltip player_id="1231822" first="Leland" last="Coleman"] | 6’6” WF | Team Richmond HGSL

Another wing that took a big leap this past year and is having a good summer with Team Richmond, Coleman has had some great performances over the past few events and has so much potential to work with. He’s a good athlete with good length that’s able to play above the rim and protect the rim as well, he can use his athleticism and length to defend and he’s improved in his ability to make shots and make plays off the bounce. He’s also a high academic kid who works hard off the court too and could be a very good look for high academic programs.

[player_tooltip player_id="1232155" first="Jadon" last="Pace"] | 6’5” WF | Team Push

Pace has proved himself over the past few years as one of the top shooters in the 757 and with his size and length he has a lot of potential as a 3 and d prospect moving forward. He moves well off the ball and can spot up and knock it down in transition and in the half court, he has improved in his ability to handle the ball and get to spots to make shots and make plays for others and he uses his length to get deflections and he can close out and contest shots. He has a lot of tools that translate well to the next level and he shows flashes of big production as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1482992" first="Michael" last="Ojo"] | 6’7” WF | BWSL Gold

Ojo is one of the top late bloomers in the 757 after a breakout junior season at Princess Anne, and he’s super intriguing with his mix of athleticism, size and ball skills on the perimeter. He’s able to put it on the deck and has a good handle and the ability to create space, he can score it from all three levels with good efficiency and he’s a big time athlete who can play above the rim and put guys on a poster when he gets downhill. He has great size for his position and with his versatility he has a lot of upside moving forward.
