This weekend was the first live period of June which means college coaches from all levels are allowed to evaluate games in-person. Needless to say, there were many coaches in attendance. Here are a few standout forwards I was able to watch play over the weekend.
2023 6’7 F Jaiun Simon Jaiun Simon 6'7" | SF Pebblebrook | 2023 State #220 Nation GA – Pebblebrook
Jaiun Simon Jaiun Simon 6'7" | SF Pebblebrook | 2023 State #220 Nation GA had people buzzing all weekend. Simon proved there’s not much he can’t do. Simon averaged 15 PPG over the weekend and was scoring in a variety of ways. He’s a solid ball-handler and showed a consistent mid-range game. Around the rim, Simon is long and physical allowing him to get putbacks and draw fouls. Simon’s game is gritty and he wears down opposing teams with his aggression on both sides of the ball. Simon’s list of offers should grow throughout his senior year.
2023 6’6 F Mason Etter Mason Etter 6'5" | SF Etowah | 2023 State GA – Etowah
Etter is hands down one of Georgia’s most elite shooters. He knows how to get to his spots and doesn’t hesitate to pull it. He’s every bit of 6’6 and impacts the game both inside and out. He operates well as a screener, showing the ability to catch and score on the roll or pop out and knock down the 3. Etter also has a consistent floater that has been effective for him when driving the middle. Mason Etter Mason Etter 6'5" | SF Etowah | 2023 State GA checks all the boxes for a do-it-all forward and could certainly help a lot of D1 schools out there.
2024 6’4 Chase Tyler – Hiram
Chase Tyler is your ideal wing player. He pairs nicely with Jay Boyd Jay Boyd 6'2" | SG Hiram | 2023 State GA and together they provided a dangerous scoring attack this weekend for Hiram. Tyler’s a gifted athlete that plays hard on the ends of the court. He’s consistent from 3 and has shown the ability to pull up off the dribble as well. His combination of length and quickness make him a great on-ball defender and he alters many shots around the rim. Tyler is a versatile, multi-position guy who’s impact on a game can be felt in many ways.
2024 6’4 F Mason Lewis Mason Lewis 6'4" | SF Woodland-Stockbridge | 2024 State GA – Woodland-Stockbridge
Mason Lewis Mason Lewis 6'4" | SF Woodland-Stockbridge | 2024 State GA gave defenses trouble all weekend trying to contain him and he provided a consistent scoring threat for Woodland. Lewis is not a traditional forward and often plays more like a big guard. I could definitely see him playing the two-guard at the next level. However, Lewis did the majority of his damage this weekend from 15 feet in. Lewis was able to penetrate and finish tough looks using a variety of moves around the basket. His toughness and physicality in the paint wore defenders down and he rebounded the ball very well. He’s definitely a player to keep an eye on this year.
2024 6’3 F Tyquan O’neal – Maynard Jackson
Tyquan O’neal started the weekend on a tear, dropping 20 points against Athens Academy and following it with a 29 point performance against Westminster. O’neal displayed effortless range from 3, often going on runs of 2 or 3 triples in a row. He’s an aggressive defender and his active hands generated several steals leading to dunks in transition. O’neal looks like another interesting weapon for this year’s Maynard Jackson squad that knows how to score the ball.
