With Day 2 looming, to me, these four separated themselves as the top standouts:
Kobe Parlin Kobe Parlin 6'1" | CG Mark Morris | 2023 State WA , Mark Morris, 6’1, C/O 2023 (Southwest 1)
Sporting a reported 6’6 wingspan with a rugged upper body and frame, Kobe Parlin Kobe Parlin 6'1" | CG Mark Morris | 2023 State WA looked like one of the strongest wings at the showcase on Saturday. His toughness and extreme length help him particularly on the offensive glass, where he feasted. He was a handful to box out, scoring in bunches off quality second chance looks through contact. Inside the paint, he plays a lot bigger than his listed height and excels at scoring around the rim and through defenders while bowling down the lane. He’s a capable mid-range and 3-point jump shooter (18 ppg on 52% overall and 32% from 3 during regular season), and improvement in that department would make him an even more tantalizing prospect.
Demarea Garman-Wilkins, 6’2, Foss, C/O 2022 (Tacoma 1)
A dynamic two-way scoring guard, Demarea really impressed me with his presence as an active perimeter defender, along with his smooth scoring ability. Wilkins had an impressive showing as a senior for Foss High with averages of 19.4 points, 6 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per outing and was locked in at the showcase on Saturday. He can contain opposing scorers with his defensive motor and passing lane awareness, and his steals often lead to easy transition scoring opportunities for himself and teammates. He’s a magnet for momentum shifting plays and the recently committed Tacoma CC Titan is off to a great spring start and seems like a big steal to me.
Josiah Pierre Josiah Pierre 6'5" | SF Kamiak | 2023 State WA , 6’5, Kamiak, C/O 2023 (Northwest 2)
Josiah Pierre Josiah Pierre 6'5" | SF Kamiak | 2023 State WA is someone who is steadily moving up the 2023 ranks as an athletic and intriguing wing prospect who provides a variety of positive things when he’s on the floor. After becoming more comfortable with his abilities during his junior year, he showed efficiency as a scorer (18 points a game on 55% shooting) and used his length to his advantage on both sides of the ball. Those traits were evident once again against top quality competition at Bellevue College on Day 1. Pierre’s always been a nice slasher, but showed improved rebounding skills and overall finishing capability. From the beginning of the high school season in November to now, he looks to have put on a few pounds to his frame and is a major name to keep an eye on as we roll into the summer.
Trevion Frazier, 6’2, Mount Rainer, C/O 2022 (Seattle 3)
After watching Frazier play for the first time on Saturday, he instantly struck me as a switchable defensive guard who is big enough to operate as wing too. He definitely played his heart out on that end of the ball at the showcase and is no slouch offensively either. Frazier is worth a look at the next level. He can defend the 1-through-3 and his pressure defense is disruptive against perimeter ballhandlers. He’s got a creative offensive game, being able to slice and dice into the paint and finish, as well as be a threat as a jump-shooter. Per MaxPreps, he logged 13.8 points a game, adding nearly 2 steals while shooting 24% from downtown for Mt. Rainier, but he showed the ability to convert perimeter shots at a higher rate than the stats could indicate and didn’t hesitate when he was left open.
