While the event allowed me to check out the different teams in the Nova basketball program, it game me a chance to see other teams including Mid Ohio Pumas and Ohio United. I will be doing positional recaps for this event, starting with the best PGs.
Sasha Stavroff Sasha Stavroff 5'11" | CG Dublin Jerome | 2023 State OH (2023) Nova Village-Taylor (Dublin Jerome)
Stavroff doesn’t put the ball in the bucket at a high clip, but he will compete out of the backcourt and make winning plays. Not overwhelmingly athletic, Stavroff instead makes an impact as a defender, utilizing his defensive IQ to create problems on-ball. Sticks to the ball and moves with passes and drives. Stavroff is a vocal leader and carries his team on that end of the floor.
Jordan Edwards (2023) Mid Ohio Pumas -Price (Olentangy Orange)
If anyone saw their stock rise as a result of this tournament, it was Edwards. Watching him in 3 different games, one thing is for certain; Edwards has great playmaking ability. Playing as a slasher off the perimeter, Edwards got downhill quickly with good penetration and acceleration off the dribble drive. Edwards capitalized on drive-and-kick situations and found his various teammates on the perimeter when he wasn’t keeping himself on the drive. Edwards’ performance against Nova Village UA Rise cemented to me he should be a target especially at the D3 level.
Kruz McClure Kruz McClure 6'6" | SG Westerville South | 2025 State #183 Nation OH (2025) Nova Village-McClure (Westerville South)
One of the better 2025s I saw at the event, McClure had a solid showing for Nova during pool play action. The Westerville South product demonstrates playmaking ability on his end as well. While he is younger than previously mentioned Jordan Edwards, McClure has a little more finesse to his playmaking. He especially caught my eye with his precise passing and setups. Can keep the ball himself and showed me signs of being a polished scoring threat as he adds some more to his frame and skillset.
Juwan Turner Juwan Turner 5'10" | PG Pickerington Central | 2024 State OH (2024) Nova Village-Turner (Pickerington Central)
Turner showed me as a scout and as a coach what he is capable of when he comes on the floor. A polished guard, Turner brings a combination of tougher frame and elite ball-handling to breakdown opposing defenders on the perimeter. Turner excelled in a half court setting and created clean shot opportunities off the dribble or in dribble drive. Turner is arguably one of the best 2024s in Ohio and particularly looks to be a target for some D1/D2 programs.
