We got busy covering the Prep Hoops Circuit stop in Indianapolis and the Nova Village classic this weekend, but recently we updated 2024 rankings and didn’t get a chance to finish our top new players feature series. In this article we’ll be breaking down the top guards that were recently added to the rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id="1421141" first="Brooks" last="Laukhuf"], 6’1 CG Wayne Trace 2024: Laukhuf impressed me with NW Ohio 16 U in Fort Wayne early in the spring, showing the ability to knock down jumpers off the bounce and the catch at a high clip. I also liked the way he led the offense next to [player_tooltip player_id="1187132" first="Landon" last="Brewer"], as that pair dominated the offensive end with [player_tooltip player_id="1404789" first="Jack" last="Knapke"] not playing with the team that weekend. Laukhuf had a solid Sophomore season at Wayne Trace and could be in line for a potential conference player of the year award as a Junior.

[player_tooltip player_id="1373988" first="Kenyon" last="Giles"], 5’11 CG Rhodes 2024: Giles was a prospect I got to see for one game in the high school season and thought he had some potential, but really stood out for the Ohio Rebels the same weekend in Fort Wayne. Giles is a downhill attacking guard who right now is probably best suited for an off-ball role but should handle a lot of the primary ball-handling responsibilities for Rhodes this season with the graduation of [player_tooltip player_id="1128342" first="Jamal" last="Sumlin"]. Giles should have the chance to prove to me that he’s capable of running the show as a point guard these next two winters with his high school team. Regardless, Giles should be one of the top scorers in the senate league next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1392313" first="Chance" last="Casenhiser"], 5’9 PG Uniontown Lake 2024: Casenhiser is a smaller guard but has some wiggle with his handle that allows him to create some separation on drives to the basket or pull-up 3-pointers. My only viewing of him was against Akron Buchtel at the Play By Play Classics and I’m excited to see Casenhiser this spring with his grassroots team. Casenhiser is going to be the main guy for Lake next season with the graduation of [player_tooltip player_id="1392311" first="Camden" last="Horning"].

[player_tooltip player_id="1352458" first="Derek" last="Fairley"], 5’11 PG Lutheran West 2024: Fairley is a sleeper prospect that not many people have heard about, but his pick and roll chemistry with [player_tooltip player_id="1352454" first="Boubacar" last="Djigo"] is difficult to stop. Fairley impressed me with his slashing ability. I’ll be trying to see the longhorns again this winter to see where each prospect stands after a summer of development.

[player_tooltip player_id="1421136" first="Brian" last="Sullivan Jr"], 6’0 CG St Edward 2024: Sullivan is a prospect who has waited his turn and could be a breakout candidate for Saint Edward this winter as the Eagles have a lot of senior talent to replace. After watching Sullivan Jr for Marshall Warriors this spring, I’m confident Sullivan Jr will be a major contributor this winter. Sullivan Jr is quick and a solid athlete, which allows him to make plays defensively.
