A prospect who is a key piece in the favorite in Division II Lutheran West, Fairley is another prospect who holds an offer from Lourdes University. One of the best defenders in the 2024 class, Fairley gets after it against opposing ball handlers. His activity with his hands forces a lot of turnovers. As a passer, Fairley also sets the table for his team. Recently going over 500 assists for his high school career, that’s a number not many high school guards can match. We’ll see if a deep tournament run helps Fairley get some more attention on the recruiting trail, he has a lot to provide a college program.

Lutheran West has been on a tear recently, knocking off Lutheran East and Garfield Heights before taking out Lima Sr on Saturday. The Longhorns got production from a variety of players with Fairly and

leading the charge. Fairley has good length and really gets after opposing ball handlers and forcing turnovers. One aspect of his game that’s taken a clear improvement this year is his perimeter shooting, knocking down a corner 3-pointer and a two-dribble mid-range pull-up. If Fairley can improve his left hand, he could find it easier to score on drives in his college career. With a strong playoff run, Fairley could see some more college programs come calling late in the cycle for 2024 recruits.

Another Prep Hoops Circuit member coming from Mac Basketball , Fairley has helped lead Lutheran West to a very strong start to their season. The chemistry the Longhorns play with after having a majority of their senior core play together on the Prep Hoops Circuit has translated immediately to the winter. A guard who can impact the game in a variety of ways with his defense, play-making and slashing ability, Fairley is a guard who should be getting a lot of small college interest. It helps that Lutheran West will play in a lot of marquee games the rest of the season and likely a deep tournament run for Fairley to continue to get the looks he deserves. Fairley is another prospect in this article who only holds one offer, from Lourdes University, an unbeaten NAIA program.

You will be hard pressed to find a better backcourt duo than that of Mac Boys Basketball 2024. The Lutheran West duo led their high school team to a state finals appearance and advanced to the Prep Hoops Grit Region Finals 17u Final Four this past weekend as well. Fairley was a big part of that showcasing his dynamic playmaking ability and consistently lead Mac Boys on the offensive end. College programs continue to get more and more involved with this two-way guard prospect.

Sunday’s final four battle was by far the best I’ve seen Fairley play on the Prep Hoops Circuit this year as he did a little bit of everything to contribute for his team. Defensively, he was flying around and forcing turnovers. As a passer, Fairley makes the right read in transition and got a handful of assists. Tough to stop as a slasher, Fairley can attack the rim and finish in the paint. Currently holding one offer from Lourdes University, expect more schools to get involved with Fairley this winter as he tries to lead Lutheran West back to Dayton.

Derek just makes winning plays on the floor. In transition he was making smart decisions with the ball, able to read and react quickly to the defense on whether he can get all the way to the rim to score, or if he should dump it off to a sprinting teammate. In the half-court he knows how to utilize ball screens, can get a defender pinned on his hip before attacking the basket, and also showcased a nice mid-range game. Unselfish player who was constantly getting his teammates involved and wasn’t overdribbling the rock.

This duo shines together during both the high school and grassroots seasons with Lutheran West and Mac basketball respectively. This weekend will be my first time watching the duo together playing 17 U.
