The last stop of the Grit Region spring session took place in Columbus Ohio this weekend. A deep talented field made choosing all tournament teams difficult.

Following are the first and second all tournament teams from 17 U division.

First Team

[player_tooltip player_id="868229" first="Myles" last="J. Colvin"] 6-5 Heritage Christian (IN) The national top 100 recruit was the highest ranked player in the field. The Purdue commit did not disappoint. Showed off the usual array of explosive plays in the open court. Had an impressive steal and thunderous dunk in transition against OBC. Showed toughness by playing through an injury in that game. Finished with 21 points in that contest.

[player_tooltip player_id="1158635" first="Austin" last="Cripe"] 6-3 West Noble (IN) Colvin wasn’t the only Hoosier state standout in Columbus. Cripe absolutely went off for 5 Star. In the games I watched had three outputs of 25 points or greater. Is an excellent shooter. But did most of his damage from the mid range. Was a crafty and clever scorer around the rim. Did not shrink from the moment. Wanted the ball in his hands late of a dramatic OT victory against OBC. Ends the spring with quite a bit of momentum. Also played very well at Havoc in the Heartland two weekends ago in Indianapolis.

[player_tooltip player_id="1165700" first="Braydn" last="Szczepaniak"] 6-3 Cleveland St Ignatius (OH) I’ve already mentioned OBC twice. So let’s get to their standout. Szczepaniak was a “jack of all trades” type of player this weekend. Skilled on the perimeter. But also strong enough to bang around down low. Formed a nice duo with Strongsville point guard [player_tooltip player_id="954767" first="Justin" last="Wypasek"]. Locked up some pretty good players on the defensive end as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="957055" first="Mikey" last="Allen"] 6-0 Bishop Walsh (MD) Provided excellent point guard play for an ESF Basketball squad that had a very good weekend. Has plenty of speed. But with his solid sturdy frame is more of power point guard. Hangs in the air and has good elevation. This makes him a good finisher at the rim despite not being the tallest prospect. Scored 16 points and made plenty of clutch plays in ESF’s closing victory over Cincinnati based R4L. Battle tested player who preps at a school that participates on the NIBC. Accordingly exposure should not be an issue. Nevertheless I would say this top 40 player in Maryland is a little under the radar. If he plays like he did this weekend. That could change in the coming year.

[player_tooltip player_id="1225054" first="Grayson" last="Steury"] 5-11 Ashland (OH) Led Mid-Ohio Pumas-Price to an undefeated record. Untested through most of it as well. Steury was a knock down shooter all weekend. As the record indicates. Makes winning basketball plays. Was a particularly effective shooter in the clutch. This was especially evident in his teams closing victory over Indiana Elite Swish.

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id="1386999" first="Greyson" last="Trubia"] 6-7 Hilton (NY) Where to start with a Team Cray squad that had an excellent weekend. Difficult to pick from such a deep and balanced unit. I’m going to go to the post. Trubia is projectable post prospect due to his athletic profile. Long lean frame. But not overly skinny and has room to add strength. Fluid athlete who ran the court well for his size. Didn’t put up eye opening counting statistics but was a big part of his teams successful weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id="1165508" first="Trenton" last="Collins"] 6-4 Utica (OH) Solid all around forward for Mid Ohio Pumas-Sliemers. Teams only loss was to a good Team Cray squad (see above) Went out on a high high note. Had one of the performances of the tournament in a “closer than the score” Sunday victory over Western PA Pride. Posted an impressive 25 point outing. Scored from all three levels and found open teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id="1399903" first="Sean" last="McKitrick"] 6-3 Dayton Carroll (OH) I already did a Saturday superlative column. So I’ll just leave this here. One of the better shooters I saw on the weekend. In fact, arguably one of the better shooters I have seen all spring. He was simply automatic from beyond the arc for Dayton Elite. Has good vertical size and a trigger quick release. Accordingly had very little difficulty getting shots off from deep. Seemed to really like the corners in the games I watched. Scored 22 points in the opening contest and kept up this clip throughout the weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id="1183906" first="Ayden" last="Carter"] 6-4 Fremont Ross (OH) Carter continued his two week assault on Prep Hoops Circuit rims. Had a several highlight reel dunks on the weekend. More than just highlights however. Played well in the mid range and simply made a lot of winning basketball plays. Led Hopson Elite to a 3-1 record on the weekend. In that lone loss to a good CLP Elite squad (see below) Led a spirited comeback after his team dug a pretty big early hole. Led this charge while also playing through an in game injury. Like [player_tooltip player_id="1158635" first="Austin" last="Cripe"] on the first team. Is on a bit of a streak as one of the better performers on the spring Prep Hoops Circuit. Also played well last weekend in Grand Rapids.

[player_tooltip player_id="1456985" first="Cale" last="Rammel"] 6-5 Fort Recovery (OH) Versatile forward had an excellent weekend for Lima based CLP Elite. Book ended his weekend with standout contests in the first and last games of the tourney. Scored 17 points in an opening victory over Toledo based CCB. Closed with a big game against previously unbeaten Hopson Elite. Had a two handed follow flush in that contest that showed off his athleticism. Formed a nice duo with [player_tooltip player_id="1456984" first="Parker" last="Davidson"].
