The three-day live period event took place at Open Gym Premier in Anaheim and The Draft Sports Complex in Corona with teams from California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Texas, Canada and North Carolina represented. In this piece we take a look at the top playmakers from the event.
Aliaun Iscandari, BTI Select – Iscandari led BTI’s 16u squad to a weekend championship and the lefty did so by using his vision and athleticism to create for himself and teammates off the bounce. The 6-foot-2 sophomore point guard has explosive speed in transition and blow-by ability in the half-court setting. Iscandari is best when attacking the basket on the break and finishing around the rim or drawing the help defenders and kicking to open teammates.
Angelo Gil Angelo Gil 6'1" | PG Mission Bay | 2023 State CA-S , San Diego All-Stars – Gil carried over his lead guard prowess from Mission Bay high school into the club season, which is pretty seamless seeing that his club coach, Marshawn Cherry, is also his high school coach. The 6-foot junior point guard has a combination of strength, speed and balance which makes him a tough cover when he gets a full head of steam toward the basket. Gil has the ability to put together explosive scoring games, but can also control the pace and outcome of a game with his passing and basketball IQ.
Jameson Caruso, Inland Rotary – Caruso is a blur in transition and is always looking to push the pace, put pressure on the rim and keep the defense on its heels. The 6-foot, class of 2023 guard out of Beverly Hills high school is a crafty ball handler in traffic who can get paint touches at-will and create for himself and others off the bounce.
Jayden Teat Jayden Teat 6'3" | CG Capital Christian | 2023 State CA-N , Cali Wizards – The Jesuit high school product has a big guard feel at 6-foot-3 with a smoothness to his game that allows him to make things look easy. The 6-foot-3 junior has a high basketball IQ, is a shot maker from multiple levels of the floor and understands how to control the pace and tempo of a game. Teat is a versatile and smart defensive player as well who rebounds well for his size and position.
Kaden Ericksen Kaden Ericksen 6'2" | CG Syracuse | 2023 State UT , Utah Basketball Club – Ericksen was one of the better all-around playmakers of the event. The 6-foot-2 combo guard out of Syracuse high school in Utah made impressive reads and decisions out of ball screen action, didn’t over-handle the basketball, and showed he was willing to throw the quick hit-ahead pass to take advantage of fast break opportunities.
