This off-season, the versatile 6-foot-4, 185-pound sophomore swingman from Sunset High School is looking to become more of a household name across the state, if not college coaches. Thanks to getting into gear the second half of the season, Turner is on a roll that shouldn’t stop anytime soon.
“Overall as a team, we had a pretty solid season,” Turner said. “Personally, at the start of the season I wasn’t too aggressive but as we got going, I realized my role on the team was pretty big so I stepped up a little more. I think I attacked pretty well and throughout the season my free throw shooting got better. My three-point shooting got better at the end as well.”
Turner is a versatile wing who, while he largely played up front for the Apollos, has the ability to shoot from the outside and also put the ball on the floor a bit – the latter a skill he’s focused on improving this off-season. On the year, he averaged 8.5 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting just under 53 percent from the field.
There’s no doubt his size and versatility for a wing projects to the college level. He notes that his dream schools are Duke, Oregon, and UCLA but Turner is aiming to get on the radar of any coach at the next level at this point.
“I haven’t talked to any colleges yet, so I’ve got to keep working,” Turner said.
Turner is running with Team Progress for AAU basketball and one of the main reasons why is there’s familiarity with his teammates. “I’ve known a lot of these dudes for a long time,” Turner said. “It’s just fun playing after COVID and we should definitely do good. We’ve got a lot of pieces.”
Turner is currently on the watchlist in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2024 rankings.
