On this weekend, the top ballers competed in the 3-Point Shootout, the Dunk Contest, and the highly anticipated All-Star Game. The top unsigned seniors in the city were given a chance to showcase their remarkable skill sets one final time before moving on to bigger and better things. Here we recap and break down the competitions from this remarkable event.
3-Point Contest Recap
This 3-point shootout gave contestants 60 seconds to shoot 15 total shots from 5 different spots beyond the arc. Keller Central’s 6-foot-3-inch combo guard, DaeVeon Scott got it going by draining his long-range shots with and without his feet being set, he liked to catch the ball on the hop while going into his jumper. Point Guard, B.J. Williams from Fort Worth Brewer High School, shot it well off the catch and knocked down consecutive trays with a left-to-right two-step. Williams nailed 7 three-pointers in the first round and 8 in the second round, falling just a couple of shots away from the final round. Sharpshooting small forward, Jamison Bosch Jamison Bosch 6'7" | SF Fort Worth Boswell | 2022 State TX displayed a very consistent shooting form, good elevation with a release slightly above his head. But most impressive of them all was Birdville’s very own, Chase Henderson Chase Henderson 5'10" | SG Birdville | 2022 State TX who took home crown. Henderson fluidly stepped into every shot and let it fly with great accuracy and a sweet touch, whether he missed or made it the ball hit the exact same spot on the basket, showing consistency as a remarkable shooter.
Dunk Contest Recap
6-foot-10, postman, Arop Arop set the gym on fire with the opening dunk, taking off and throwing down a reverse Eastbay slam dunk and he converted the slam on his very first attempt receiving a perfect score. Richland High School senior guard, Jourdyn Grandberry Jourdyn Grandberry 6'3" | SG Richland | 2022 State TX stepped up to the plate and raised the stakes after Arop’s mind-blowing dunk by exploding off the ground and cleanly clearing the nearly 7-foot Arop Arop, showing supreme confidence in his leaping and dunking abilities. Young Men’s Leadership Academy star, Zach Lee Zach Lee 6'5" | SG RWG Stem Academy | 2022 State TX also impressed everyone in attendance with his first slam dunk which came off of a hard bounce to himself for a mean windmill throw down. Texas-ranked guard, Marlon Carrington Marlon Carrington 6'3" | SG Haltom | 2022 State TX out of Haltom High School won the contest after pulling off multiple dunks that made him look as if he could fly, his sheer elevation and knack for converting his slams with a limited number of attempts earned him the victory at the end.
