It was a relatively busy night on the Indiana High School Basketball scene for a Thursday night. Myself and Kyler Staley both took in the Evansville Reitz vs. Evansville Harrison game this evening, but there was plenty of other action across the Hoosier State. Let’s dive in to a few of the top storylines.

Reitz Comes Back to Beat Harrison

Evansville Reitz didn’t have an answer for Terryonta Hooks early in the game. The junior guard poured in eight first quarter points for the Warriors to give Evansville Harrison an 18-10 advantage after one quarter. However, the longer the game went on the more it shift in the favor of the Panthers.

6’3" junior [player_tooltip player_id="868263" first="Isaac" last="Higgs"] really got going in the second period scoring nine points and backed it up with another nine point quarter in the third. Reitz still trailed 27-26 at the half, but over took the lead with a score of 47-43 going into the fourth.

Freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id="1297113" first="Shane" last="Sims"] tried to keep Harrison in the game in the second half, but it just wasn’t enough for the increased pace by Reitz. The Panthers put the game on ice down the stretch at the free throw line and moved to 9-6 on the season with a 67-55 victory. They are now 7-1 atop the Southern Indiana Conference standings.

For unofficial stats, Higgs finished with 24 points to lead all scorers while 6’5" senior forward [player_tooltip player_id="870244" first="Gavin" last="Schippert"] added 13 points and 7 rebounds for Reitz. For Harrison, the freshman Sims connected on five three-pointers for a team-high 17 points.

Jeffersonville Wins as Time Expires

It has been an up-and-down season for the Red Devils, but they won their third straight game tonight over a solid Bedford North Lawrence squad 44-42. Drake signee [player_tooltip player_id="769655" first="Will" last="Lovings-Watts"] drove to the basket and finished through contact as time expired to secure the win for Jeffersonville. The game won’t have huge Hoosiers Hills Conference ramifications as both teams are in the bottom half of the standings, but Jeffersonville is starting to show a little life at the right time of the season.

Another Big Night for [player_tooltip player_id="1158245" first="Jack" last="Benter"]

Brownstown Central moved to 15-3 on the season with a big 71-49 win over the Washington Hatchets. The Braves still control their own destiny in the Mid-Southern Conference as they hold the head-to-head tie-breaker over North Harrison. However, a date at Eastern (Pekin) looms as a potentially conference-deciding game. 6’4" sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id="1158245" first="Jack" last="Benter"] put up 32 points to lead Brownstown. He continues to have a huge season scoring the basketball.

Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="1297066" first="Joshua" last="Renfro"] Scores 30

Christian Academy of Indiana freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id="1297066" first="Joshua" last="Renfro"] went for a career-high 30 points tonight in a 53-32 win over Trinity Lutheran. Renfro has had a monster beginning to his high school career. Recently was ranked as the #37 prospect in the Class of 2025 by Prep Hoops Indiana.
