The lanky 6-foot-6, 190-pound forward has been a reserve in the past for Beaverton and now a starter, he was feeling things out earlier this season. But the past two weeks, the senior has started to shine. Starting at the Capitol City Classic and then this past week at the Les Schwab Invitational, Rosenfeld has gotten more aggressive with his game and the results have been noticeable both for himself and his team.
“I’m just finding my role,” Rosenfeld said. “Last year as a junior, I was coming in behind a big star like Dane (Erikstrup). Now that he’s off to college, I’ve found a new role on the team. I’m starting to fill his role and fill those shoes and it’s fun. We’re getting wins, we just got third place (at the LSI), and this team is amazing.”
Rosenfeld has started for the Beavers since the beginning of the season in the post, but it’s been over holiday break where he’s really started to come into his own offensively. At the Capitol City Classic, he tallied 12 and 15 points in the last two games, and then at the LSI, he opened the tournament with a 14-point performance against Central Catholic. All the while, he’s focused on hitting the boards and playing solid defense, things he prepared himself to do over the off-season.
“I struggle with my size so I took advantage of an open weight room and access to getting bigger and I think I’ve done a better job of that,” Rosenfeld said. “It translates to rebounding and to hustling, and I’m banging down low.”
Rosenfeld has a soft touch on his mid-range jumper and can aggressively take it to the hole and finish. He’s also a good interior passer who can find teammates cutting to the hoop for scores. He’s hoping his play is catching the eyes of college basketball coaches and with a 3.5 GPA, is aiming for the D-III level.
“I haven’t gotten much attention because it’s my first year having a big role, so I’m starting to get film together and send out to coaches,” Rosenfeld said. “I’m just looking for a place where I can play. I wouldn’t mind going into a role if that meant I wouldn’t play much my first couple of years but play later on. Education also matters a lot to me so I want to go somewhere to advance myself as well as play basketball.”
Beaverton capped off the LSI with a big win over Barlow to capture third place. Rosenfeld feels the team is currently on a high and in good shape as they move forward into the rest of the season. “We’ve got two more big games until league play,” Rosenfeld said. “Those are two winnable games – we’ve just got to stay on the grind and keep playing as a team. We’re really working well together and the chemistry is amazing. So after those two games, we’ve got Metro League which is one of the toughest leagues in the state. It should be fun.”
Rosenfeld is not currently ranked but will be added in the next iteration of the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
