Jalen Joyce 6’4 Guard of Skyline HS
Joyce is a strong body player with a long reach, he worked well in transition, handling the ball using a nice cross over to get himself to the basket. He had a couple of quality finishes off two feet in the paint. He’s a good rebounding guard who has the strength, and speed to guard in the post and on the perimeter. He plays with good balance. 12pts
BJ Clark 6’1 PG of Skyline HS.
Clark got off to a good start before being saddled with foul trouble. He’s a thick guard with good handles and a good mid-range jumper around the free throw area. He hit two 3-Ptrs early. His handles were good enough to get into the paint. He’s an aggressive on ball defender who can help on the boards. He had 2stls, and 4 rebounds, 9pts.
Shemar Cook 6’3 Guard of Alameda HS.
An athletic player with length and good hops hops, and the range to shoot 3’s. At 6’3 his long arms makes him a good guard to use in the post area to shoot over taller players. He was effective in transition where his length, and hops got him close to the rim to complete the play. He’s a good defender with long arms and foot speed to play on ball and cover passing lanes. 13pts.
Ivan Yu 5’8 PG of Alameda HS.
Yu is a high IQ guard with good speed on the court. He’s decisive, and makes good reads and solid passes to shooters, he had at least 4 assists. He has a good mid-range jumper and has to be accounted for from behind the arc. two 3’s for 8pts.
Alvon Watts 6’5 Forward of Oakland Tech HS.
Most good teams have that energy guy with plenty of bounce to his game. You don’t call plays for him. His activity creates pluses for the team. Watts fit the mode here. He’s aggressive going after rebounds, he has good strength length to defend in the paint, as well as the perimeter. He’s a good court runner. He’s on Wrights Watch List. 6pts.
Caden Breznikar 6’5 Guard of Miramonte HS
Breznikar really caught our attention with his play. He’s a big guard who’s active on both ends of the court. He’s long and wiry with good basketball skills. At 6’5 he has good vision, and passing skills. He handles and pushes fast in transition. His length, and aggressiveness allows him to finish at the rim on drives. He helps on the boards, and can defend on the perimeter. 17pts.
Matthew Villanueva 6’0 Guard of Moreau Catholic HS
He’s a active player in constant movement along the perimeter using screens and cuts to find a way to get up shots from behind the 3-pt line. He works to stay in front of defenders and fills the lanes in transition looking for that 3ptr. He had the hot hand in the 4th quarter with three 3’s that helped fuel the comeback. 14pts.
Tim Netane 6’6 Forward of St. Francis HS.
The two sport athlete (football) is transitioning well from football to basketball, his season just ended about a week ago. He seems primed and ready to be a key piece for a team expected to challenge in the tough WCAL this season. Netane can do multiple things on the court. He initiated the offense in half court sets, he’s a strong rebounder who’ll score inside and defend in the post. He can operate on the perimeter with a decent outside shot, and dribble to get into the paint. 6pts. He’s on Wright’s Watch List.
