Andrew Graf Andrew Graf 5'11" | CG Brookfield East | 2024 State WI – 2024 – G – Brookfield East
Graf shot the ball pretty well on Tuesday. While he’s an undersized guard, Graf makes up for it with speed on and off the ball and some crafty scoring ability in the paint. Graf isn’t imposing physically by any means, but the 5-foot-10 guard plays with a little bit of an edge. He’s not gonna get to the rim a ton, but will lower his shoulder, draw contact, and score fading away from the rim. Graf flies around quite a bit defensively as well, coming up with three steals. He can pick up full court without having to worry about being beaten off the dribble. The Spartans have a lot of scoring options, but Graf stepped up when his number was called, contributing 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Aidan Konop Aidan Konop 6'2" | SG Sussex Hamilton | 2024 State WI – 2024 – G – Sussex Hamilton
Konop has a tremendous feel for the game and can impact things in a big way without scoring. Throughout the night, Konop just drove into high percentage areas and set up his teammates for easy buckets. The sophomore guard had 10 points and a handful of assists. He’s listed at 6-foot-1, but his length makes him look closer to 6-foot-3. Also a knockdown shooter, Konop can play off the ball if needed. He’s also a terrific on-ball defender that anticipates well and gets his hands in the passing lanes.
Matthew Schmainda Matthew Schmainda 6'2" | CG Brookfield East | 2023 State WI – 2023 – G – Brookfield East
If you made a mistake on a screen against Schmainda, he made you pay for it. The junior guard poured in a team-high 25 points, including 18 in the first half on six 3-pointers alone. A quick trigger guard with in-the-gym range, Schmainda can really light it up from deep. He was mostly an outside shooter last season, but has worked very hard on his guard skills and developed into a shot creator as well. One of the toughest, fiercest prospects in the state, Schmainda really gets after it defensively. He’s wired differently and thinks every loose ball is his. You just never see this guy take a play off.
Luther Smith Luther Smith 6'1" | SG Sussex Hamilton | 2023 State WI – 2023 – SG – Sussex Hamilton
Smith had one of the best performances of his career, and it wasn’t just about the point total. Yes, the junior guard dropped a game-high 32 points, but it was how he got those points that was really impressive. Going up against one of the state’s top on-ball defenders, Smith was held in check early. His adjustment? Get him in foul trouble and force him to play with caution. Once Smith got his defender a second foul in the first half, it was on. Knocking down shots from way beyond the arc, with a hand in his face, and mixing it up with dribble drives to the rim, was 6-of-10 from 3-point range. He drained a series of jumpers that blew the game open for the Chargers and allowed them to create separation after trailing the entire first half. When it was closing time…same story, as Smith didn’t let the Spartans back in the game.
Ethan Wolfinger – 2022 – W/F – Sussex Hamilton
Thought Wolfinger really changed the game for Hamilton by setting a tone. Whether it was offensive putbacks, blocked shots, winning 50-50 balls, or keeping plays alive on the glass, Wolfinger’s energy and effort added up to a big difference in the game. The senior was giving up quite a bit of size, but helped take East’s leading scorer out of the game in the post. He also came up with 14 points for the Chargers, who heavily relied on Wolfinger to do a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor.
