It’s a 16 team tournament, featuring teams from different areas of Northern California. There was one team from Southern California in this years event. Here are some standouts from the winning teams on Tuesday.
Kyle Winters 6’3 Guard 2022 of Marin Catholic
Winters a strong big guard showed us why he was one of the better players on the court Tuesday night. He was the games leading scorer with 30 points. He used his size, and strength posting up players. He had strong finishes at the rim from transition, and he used his handles to hit his mid-range jumper from different spots on the court.
Noah Deitch 6’6 Forward 2022 of Marin Catholic.
Deitch was solid at the forward position. He showed he can be an effective player in the post, and on the perimeter. He has good foot work, and gets wide, using a turnaround jumper and taking it strong along the baseline. He’s a good ball mover, often finding cutters to the basket, and swinging the ball to the other side. He was most effective when he found himself in the corners throughout the game knocking down 3-point shots (5). He’ll help on the boards, and defend. He had 21pts.
Armaan Grewal 6’2 Guard 2022 of Central Catholic.
We don’t often see a player that looks forward to using his passing skills first. Grewal is an instinctual passer, he’s always looking and probing in anticipation of finding a teammate to pass to. He has some scoring ability to keep the defense honest (9) points, he had some strong takes on the drive, but he excels looking for the assist.
Tyler Dutto 6’4 guard 2022 of Miramonte
A big guard who can handle the ball, change directions and plays on balance. He has excellent passing skills, and court vision. He plays at a good pace and isn’t sped up. Dutto is usually content with his role as a facilitator. Tuesday he was assertive in looking for ways to score points. He used his solid body to get into the paint regularly finishing with strong takes challenging defenders off of one, or two feet, and floaters. He scored 18pts.
Tyson Hazel 6’2 guard of Folsom.
Our first look at Hazel would indicate it was a break-out performance for the shooting guard. He has an excellent shot when pulling up for jumpers in transition or in half court sets. His shots were falling even as he was aggressive attacking the basket using reverses, hitting short corner jumpers, and other ways to score points. Three 3’s and 21pts to lead the team.
Kenny Clayton 6’5 Forward 2022 of Martin Luther King. Riverside, CA.
Clayton is a highly productive athlete, he proved to be too tough to handle around the basket. He’s strong, and uses his body well to power up for points in the paint. He plays well off two feet inside, he’ll play through contact often heading to the foul line. He has good touch around the rim. He was the games top scorer with 28pts.
