Prep Hoops Illinois was in the house for the first day of the Pangos All Frosh/Soph Midwest Camp on Saturday. Here we dive into the top performers from the first day in Pangos All-Midwest Frosh/Soph Camp: Saturday Standouts!

Tim Winkler (All Saints Academy Middle School – 2026)

This was the first time I have seen the 6’8” eighth grader play. Man was he impressive. Would have been a standout even if he wasn’t two years younger than everyone else. So fluid getting up and down the floor. Looked very comfortable shooting it from three. Even handled it in the open floor on a euro step.

[player_tooltip player_id="1285496" first="Jason" last="Jakstys"] (Yorkville – 2024)

One of the more under rated five men in the class. He shined with Basketball Paradise this summer and the 6’8” five left a major impression with his play on Saturday. Swatted a ton of shots displaying excellent timing and feel. Offensively showed sound footwork and touch in the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id="1295542" first="Bryce" last="Welch"] (Naperville North – 2024)

Welch is a point guard that reminds me a lot of Lyons star and Akron commit [player_tooltip player_id="1048712" first="Tavari" last="Johnson"]. Smaller guard that is so smooth with the rock having it on a string getting in the lane for scores and dishing it off to teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id="1157228" first="James" last="Brown"] (St. Rita – 2024)

Brown had his moments like he always does. The state’s top sophomore ran the floor with purpose for dunks throughout the day, spin moves on the block, and rebounded very well. His size and skill combination standout among his peers at the event.

[player_tooltip player_id="1285484" first="Tavariyaun" last="Williams"] (Leo – 2024)

Small forward with plus size had quite a day! He showed improved skill draining several threes shooting it with more confidence than we saw during the summer. Has a lot of physical tools that project well long term on the wing.

[player_tooltip player_id="1157230" first="Morez" last="Johnson"] (St. Rita – 2024)

Johnson had the most impressive single game we saw all day. The St. Rita power forward and #2 overall prospect in 2024 was an absolute man child doing whatever he wanted. He took his man from the high-post off the bounce for scores. Spin moves, seals, and all of them finishing with dunks. Worked well in the pick/roll and spaced the floor with his shooting. Dominated the glass as well.

Melvin Bell (St. Rita – 2025)

Bell is certainly a contender for the top spot in the 2025 class. Wiry and bouncy two guard that high points rebounds in traffic and has such easy explosion around the hoop. Played some on the ball and showed decent passing feel including a nice pick/roll dish.

Ian Miletic (Rolling Meadows – 2025)

Really like what this 6’5” point forward brings to the table. He hit his teammates with on the money dishes all day long for scores. Pushed in the open floor with dazzling dishes. He has creativity with his handles and a sweet looking lefty shooting stroke.

[player_tooltip player_id="1157223" first="Nojus" last="Indrusaitis"] (Lemont – 2024)

The top wing in the state’s sophomore class played like it in the game we saw. So skilled, athletic, and explosive as a three level scorer. He got to the rim where he threw down dunks, got on the offensive glass with his second jump, and finished dump off passes inside. On the perimeter he drained some threes. Effortless bucket getter!

Andre Blakely (Larkin – 2024)

Another high level scorer here. Blakely is a shifty playmaking scoring guard that was feeling it from beyond the arc with his shooting draining an array of threes along with some bullet passes.

[player_tooltip player_id="1157225" first="Payton" last="Kamin"] (DePaul Prep – 2024)

Kamin had a strong day. The lanky shooting guard has plus positional size and has always been known for his shooting. He drained shots at a high rate like always but it was his off the bounce game that made a major impression. Put in floaters, reverse layups, and spinning layups.

Bryce Heard (Kenwood – 2025)

Heard is without question one of the special prospects in the 2025 class. The Kenwood two guard has plus size and the ability to get to the rim at will. Scored on a variety of takes including euro steps. Capable shot maker as well with a clean looking three point shot.

[player_tooltip player_id="1194776" first="Max" last="Johnson"] (OPRF – 2024)

Johnson was excellent in the first day of action. The OPRF point guard is a sound pull up jump shooter that has the ball on a string getting in the lane finishing through contact. Also talked smack while doing it.

[player_tooltip player_id="1157222" first="JJ" last="Hernandez"] (Glenbard North – 2024)

Hernandez is a two way wing with size and strength. He defends at a high level with his length along with hitting the glass very well. We liked the growth in his skill that we saw as he handled it well and shot it with confidence.

[player_tooltip player_id="1157213" first="Jaedin" last="Reyna"] (St. Rita – 2024)

Reyna is a smooth ball handler that makes rock solid decisions with the ball in his hands. Crisp passing, acrobatic layups, and pull up mid-range jumpers are all strengths of his game and they were shown on Saturday.

[player_tooltip player_id="1157205" first="Dekwon" last="Brown"] (Limestone – 2024)

Brown is fighting Reyna for the top point guard spot in the 2024 class in Illinois. Brown is a scoring point guard that is a fantastic ball handler with burst getting to the cup. He is a volume scorer that can get to the rim where he finishes well through contact and is a capable shooter. Showed flashes as a passer.

[player_tooltip player_id="1285494" first="Ameer" last="Morrow"] (Simeon – 2024)

Morrow is the younger brother of Ed and he plays very similar to the former Simeon star. High-motor power forward that is so quick to the offensive glass. Super athletic with a strong frame. Runs the floor consistently and was always around the ball.

Out of State Saturday Standouts

Zevin Gibson (Buchtel, OH – 2024)

This 6’3” two guard from Ohio was explosive finishing off the bounce and an impact defender. On one play he swatted a three, ran the floor, and was rewarded with a pass he finished on he other end. High pointed rebounds and hit a three.

Xavier Johnson (Detroit Jesuit, MI – 2025)

Johnson popped in the very first game of the day and kept it up throughout the day. Left handed two guard with an ultra smooth game. He knocked in an array of threes and pull ups from mid-range creating off the bounce.

Kieran Granville-Britten (Taft, OH – 2024)

Strong bodied five man that can put it on the deck a little. Physical grabbing rebounds and ran the floor really hard all day long for scores. Catches passes in traffic and slams them home.

KJ Windham (Ben Davis, IN – 2024)

Windham is a two guard from Indiana who is one of the better prospects in their 2024 class. Lefty has such a free and effortless stroke as he knocked in four triples in the game that we saw. Great shot prep. Slick handles and showed some ability to kick too.

Davion Hannah (Milwaukee Academy of Science, WI – 2025)

This Wisconsin prospect emerged with a strong day. Long and projectable wing that was a force defensively and in transition. He went coast to coast on numerous occasions for finishes.
