Early 2021-22 Season Preview: NC GBBA Regional Squad

The 2021-22 high school season is only a few weeks away and it’s time for some season previews. Here’s an early look at the NC Good Better Best Academy Regional squad.

Jimmy Liles Jimmy Liles 6'1" | CG NC Good Better Best Academy | 2022 State NC | 6’2 Guard | 2022

Liles will be a veteran leader of this regional squad with his ability to be vocal on both ends of the floor and play with tons of effort on both ends of the floor. He’s developed over the past few months into a combo guard that can knock down open shots off the catch and make plays for others off the bounce. 

Max Thornton Max Thornton 6'2" | PG Jordan | 2023 NC | 6’2 Point Guard | 2023

Thornton is an emerging floor general set to run the show for the NC GBBA Regional squad in 2021-22. He’s got a knack for scoring and distributing the ball under pressure. As he learns to be more physical and buys into the weight room, he’ll be a prospect worth tracking in NC’s 2023 class.

Nigel Okwakol Nigel Okwakol 6'5" | CG Quality Education Academy | 2023 State NC | 6’5 Guard/Wing | 2023

Okwakol will probably be the primary scoring option for the NC GBBA Regional team given his ability to get downhill, make plays with solid footwork and defend with his length. He’s set to break out in the class as quite the two-way presence on the wing and in the backcourt. As he improves his body and continues getting stronger, he should turn heads in the 2023 class as well.

Sawyer S Sawyer S 6'3" | SF HomeSchool | 2023 State NC | 6’3 Wing/Forward | 2023

Simcik is a versatile threat on the wing that should add depth for this squad given his ability to knock down shots off the catch and crash the boards. He’s another prospect that continues to get stronger and improve his all-around game while being a knockdown catch-and-shoot threat. He’ll be a name to watch off the bench as a reserve.

Will Bostic Will Bostic 6'5" | PF NC GBBA National | 2023 NC | 6’5 Forward/Wing | 2023

Bostin is an underrated name in the 2023 class with quite the developing skill set as an inside-out threat. He’s a physically imposing prospect at 6-foot-5 with good strength and a solid frame. As he tightens his ballhandling and improves his control, look for his name to rise in the state. 

Nick Quick | 6’6 Wing/Forward | 2023

Quick has the potential to pose as the team’s second option on the offensive end with his high-flying athletic ability and overall sound demeanor on the floor. He’s an athletic presence that flies around the rim on both ends making plays when he’s on the floor. He’s set to play quite a role in their frontcourt with his ability to operate off the bounce.

Isaiah Otyaluk Isaiah Otyaluk 6'7" | SF Word Of God | 2024 State NC | 6’7 Forward/Center | 2023

Otyaluk is an emerging name to know with versatility in his skill set for NC GBBA. He’s got a nice feel as a shooter on the perimeter and rim runner already for his size at 6-foot-7. He uses his length well to alter shots at the rim, rebound on both ends and create mismatches on the perimeter. As he improves his strength and continues to develop his footwork, he’s another versatile threat in this lineup with tons of potential. 

Jeremy Wilson Jeremy Wilson 6'6" | PF NC GBBA Varsity | 2023 State NC | 6’7 Forward | 2023

Wilson is another forward prospect in the rotation with some versatility under his belt. He’s a fearless knockdown shooter that’ll make teams pay at the stretch-forward spot this season. Look for his name to grow with this squad and don’t be surprised if he cracks the starting rotation given the energy he brings to the floor as a consummate teammate.

Maleke Green Maleke Green 5'11" | PG South Garner | 2023 NC | 6’0 Point Guard | 2024

Green should see tons of minutes at the backup point guard spot despite his youth in the 2024 class. He’s an aggressive floor general that looks to push the envelope defensively and offensively by controlling the pace with the ball in his hands.
