Randy McClendon Jr. of DeLaSalle (6’2” Guard – 2024) Randy looked much improved from the last time I watched him play last winter. The DeLaSalle product has always been a knock-down shooter but showcased his driving and finishing abilities as well this weekend. One play in particular stood out, a posterizing dunk over an STMA defender in the Islander’s first game of the day. The sophomore guard also played with a different type of confidence I was yet to see. DeLaSalle is stacked as usual, but don’t be surprised if you see Randy’s name atop their leading scorers.
Maxsamus Wilson Maxsamus Wilson 6'3" | CG Hopkins | 2023 State MN of Hopkins (6’3” Guard – 2023) Max is slowly solidifying himself as one of the top shooters in the state. The junior guard always needs a defender up on him and a hand in his face. In their toughest game of the day versus Park Center, Wilson scored a team-high 22 points. On the first possession of the game, Hopkins won the tip and Max came down and hit a pull-up three to give his team all the momentum early. He was making these plays all day leading the Hopkins offense. I believe that Wilson will have multiple 30+ point performances in this upcoming season with the Royals as they are contenders in class AAAA.
Ibrahim El-Amin Ibrahim El-Amin 5'10" | PG Minnetonka | 2023 State MN of Minnetonka (5’10” Guard – 2023) Ibo was hitting tough shots all day for the Skippers, but that is nothing new. Every time I watch Ibo, I am amazed by the shots he creates for himself. He uses step-backs, side steps, fadeaways, sometimes a combination to get shots off. The undersized guard is one of the hardest players to match up against in Minnesota and will lead a very deep backcourt at Minnetonka this season.
Jordan Cain Jordan Cain 6'3" | SF Minnetonka | 2024 State MN of Minnetonka (6’2” Guard – 2024) Jordan Cain Jordan Cain 6'3" | SF Minnetonka | 2024 State MN has emerged himself as one of the top sophomore prospects in the state. He is not just a scorer though, Jordan is constantly coming up with steals that result in fast-break dunks and layups on the other end. Only a sophomore, Jordan was dominating defenders physically with his combination of strength and speed. Cain had a great spring/summer with D1 Minnesota 15U and looks like he will carry that into the school season with Minnetonka
Leo Torbor Leo Torbor 6'1" | PG Park Center | 2022 State MN of Park Center (6’3” Guard – 2022) Leo Torbor Leo Torbor 6'1" | PG Park Center | 2022 State MN is so fun to watch. The high-flying guard almost had the dunk of the year in a tight match-up versus Hopkins. Leo is never afraid to go up and put a contesting defender on a poster. He’s not just a dunker though, the 6’3” guard possesses an elite finishing game around the rim and did a great job creating for teammates. Torbor and Park Center are the class AAAA favorites.
Malcolm Jones Malcolm Jones 6'9" | C Prior Lake | 2022 State MN of Prior Lake (6’8” Center – 2022) Nobody was stopping Malcolm Jones Malcolm Jones 6'9" | C Prior Lake | 2022 State MN from scoring in the paint this weekend. If the 6’8” big got the ball inside it was an automatic bucket. Jones also has a smooth jump shot and can knock down threes and mid ranges. Malcolm averaged 20.2 points per game at Prior Lake last season and will now team up with junior transfer Joshua Ofori Joshua Ofori 6'7" | PF Prior Lake | 2023 State MN for a big man one-two punch.
Nasir Whitlock Nasir Whitlock 6'2" | PG Delasalle | 2023 State MN of DeLaSalle (6’1” Guard – 2023) Nas was doing it all in their two games this past weekend. The 6’1” guard is a lights out shooter, but was also blowing by defenders and finishing at the rim with ease. Whitlock started at point guard last winter with DeLaSalle and will need to step into a bigger leadership role with a young and inexperienced Islander squad. It won’t be long until Division 1 offers start to roll in for the junior playmaker.
