Certainly, talent and depth could have subsidized these issues. However, I am willing to give everyone a clean slate heading into the fall.
Let’s look at programs that could flip their records. I would say I’m doing these predictions before any schedules come out. Hopefully nobody pencils in the Milwaukee Bucks for a few games. Take a look at part one by clicking here.
Gulliver Prep – (Last season: 5-16)
Does anyone think this team is going 5-16 with Ray Allen as its head coach? I highly doubt it. To be fair, Gulliver Prep was young a season ago and still developing. However, the potential is there for a big season. The Raiders are led by 2024 Walter Ray Allen III and 2023 Amare Sanders Amare Sanders 6'2" | CG Gulliver Prep | 2024 FL . Allen III is a nice on-ball defender and great communicator. I like his ability to attack the basket and finish with either hand. I expect his offensive ability to broaden under his dad. Allen III holds offers from UMASS and Rutgers. Look for Sanders to fill out and grow to be like his brother, Notre Dame‘s Tony Sanders Tony Sanders 6'6" | SF Gulliver Prep | 2020 State #309 Nation FL , who is 6-foot-7. Expect a huge turnaround here. In fact, I will go-ahead and say Gulliver Prep will have the biggest win plus ratio from 2020-2021 in South Florida. It has all the makings of a great story and entertaining team.
Coral Reef – (Last season: 7-12)
The Barracudas went down the stretch winning three of their last four. Per its roster, Coral Reef returns its top five scorers. 2022 guard Gabriel Chung averaged 14.4 points per game. He is a threat from outside with multiple 3-point baskets from last season. Against Hialeah Gardens, Chung knocked down five and scored 20 points. A little more consistency could yield to more wins. Coral Reef needs to be better against some of the top dogs in their area.
Royal Palm Beach – (Last season: 6-8)
A bit of a risk here as the Wildcats lose four prominent seniors. 6-foot-3 Nick Gooden is a player to watch if he’s back in the fold. Furthermore, Jeremiah Police has good size at 6-foot-3. The wing scored 12 points against Park Vista and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.
Village Academy – (Last season: 4-8)
Similar to Royal Palm Beach, the Tigers will need to replace four seniors. 6-foot-5 2023 Chance Weatherspoon should return. Against Wellington (12-3), he scored a season-high 13 points. With the losses mentioned, he should have more of a role.
