We will take a look at some of the standouts from across the country, starting with part one taking a look at the top prospects from the North Carolina teams.
AJ Smith AJ Smith 6'4" | CG Combine Academy | 2022 State NC | 6’5” CG | Team Charlotte ’22
Smith has been a staple for Team CLT over the past few years and he brought his A game this past weekend as they were one of the top teams in attendance. The 6’5” combo guard is great in downhill slashing situations, he’s very strong when playing through traffic and he’s excellent in the midrange area as well. He brings it on both ends of the floor and has a toughness to him that makes him very productive on both ends.
Omarion Bodrick Omarion Bodrick 6'9" | PF Donda Academy | 2022 State NC | 6’7” F | Team Charlotte ’22
Team Charlotte was one of the top defensive teams I have seen all year, and Bodrick is the heart and soul for them on that end of the floor. At 6’7” he’s extremely long and athletic, he can guard multiple positions and is excellent in their press and despite being more of a wing than a big he is an excellent shot blocker coming help side and in the back of the press. He’s still raw on the offensive end but he plays with a great motor and finds ways to impact the game even when he isn’t touching the basketball.
Derrick Nix | 6’7” PF | Team Charlotte ’22
Nix is a big bodies forward that can play inside-out and uses his physicality and strength to be productive on both ends of the floor. He’s built like a football player but he’s skilled for his size making him a mismatch with his ability to post smaller forwards and take slower guys out on the perimeter where he can make shots and put it on the deck. He’s athletic and plays with a good motor, he does the dirty work and brings toughness to his team too.
Trey Green Trey Green 5'10" | PG Link Academy | 2023 #69 Nation MO | 5’11” PG | Team Charlotte ’23
Green is the only 2023 prospect that plays up on this Team Charlotte group, and he’s also the smallest guy on the team but he’s the straw that stirs the drink for them. He’s extremely shifty off the bounce and plays with good pace and at different speeds, he’s a big time shooter from deep and he can create shots for himself and others with ease. He has a high IQ and is highly skilled on the ball, and he always seems to be in control of the game and never really gets sped up.
Chauncey Wiggins | 6’9” PF | Team Curry ’22
Wiggins is in my opinion one of the most underrated guys in the southeast, as he has a great skillset for his size that makes him a walking mismatch. At 6’9” he’s long and athletic and he has a guard skill set that includes the ability to make shots from deep and put it on the deck and create shots in the midrange as well. He’s fluid on both ends and is very good in transition, he makes shots consistently and he should see his stock rise over the next few weeks.
Logan Threat | 6’1” CG | Team Curry ’22
Threat played extremely well this weekend for Curry as he was one of their more consistent scoring threats throughout the event and he should see more colleges get involved with him here soon. While he isn’t the biggest or most athletic guy, he has a bag and simply knows how to score the basketball off the bounce and does so in bunches. He’s shifty off the bounce and changes speeds well, he can make shots from multiple levels and he’s crafty in the midrange and around the basket.
Caleb Foster | 6’4” PG | Team Curry ’23
Foster is one of the top point guards in the country and he showed why this weekend playing up with the Curry 17U group. He has good size at the point guard position and is fluid off the bounce, changing directions and stopping on a dime and he has a good handle to be able to create space and make shots from all over the floor. He’s an excellent shooter from deep, he’s unselfish and makes good reads with the ball in his hands and he has an innate ability to simply make the right play while also knowing when to take over.
