I will do my best to settle some of the uncertainty. Any unofficial changes will be noted with an asterisk.
Let’s look into it…
Kareem Barnett Kareem Barnett 6'2" | CG Hallandale Highschool | 2022 State FL – Boyd Anderson*
2022 Kareem Barnett Kareem Barnett 6'2" | CG Hallandale Highschool | 2022 State FL will fly wherever he lands. In fact, I would compare his athleticism to Anquan Boldin Jr Anquan Boldin Jr 6'5" | CG IMG Academy | 2023 FL . The 6-foot-4 wing played at Mater Lakes Academy last season. Former head coach Lance Tejada was let go; so there is movement amongst this team. I would describe Barnett as raw with potential. He is a freight train in open space and plays above the rim. He averaged 11.1 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 43 percent from the floor as a junior. I just want to see him polish his basketball skill more.
Rickey Ballard Rickey Ballard 6'6" | CG Westminster | 2022 State FL – Westminster Academy
2022 Rickey Ballard Rickey Ballard 6'6" | CG Westminster | 2022 State FL might make the biggest impact of any transfer in South Florida. The 6-foot-6 wing instantly brings size and athleticism to Westminster Academy’s roster. He played last season at Sagemont. Ballard can really slash and get to the rim. He plays with a high motor while using his length to grab rebounds. Look for him to really excel in transition and off turnovers. I think those elements will really help the Lions pile up victories. Westminster Academy went 9-9 last season. Ballard is only getting better as a shooter; which will complete his game. He recently earned an offer from Old Dominion.
Brenen Lorient Brenen Lorient 6'8" | PF Calvary Christian | 2022 State FL – Calvary Christian Academy
The Eagles’ goal is to get to GEICO Nationals. 2022 Brenen Lorient Brenen Lorient 6'8" | PF Calvary Christian | 2022 State FL certainly helps in that mission. The 6-foot-8 forward should gel with his new teammates; specifically 2023’s Marvel Allen Marvel Allen 6'4" | SG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #46 Nation FL and Carl Cherenfant Carl Cherenfant 6'4" | CG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #68 Nation FL . I think Lorient’s versatility will be in full effect on both ends of the floor. He can finish around the lane and grab rebounds at a high rate. The 3-star prospect averaged 16.7 points and 8.2 boards for Forest (Ocala) last season. Lorient holds offers from Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia State, Illinois-Chicago, Murray State and Stetson.
Adren Roberts Adren Roberts 6'5" | SG Somerset Canyons | 2022 State FL – North Broward Prep
2022 Adren Roberts Adren Roberts 6'5" | SG Somerset Canyons | 2022 State FL and North Broward Prep will be an interesting team to watch in the fall. The Coconut Creek school already returns a solid team rled by 2022 Justin Abson Justin Abson 6'9" | PF North Broward Prep | 2022 State #230 Nation FL . Roberts adds more depth at 6-foot-5 to play the two or three. Moreover, he has an impressive 7-foot wingspan. Think of that lineup along with 6-foot-8 forward Guilherme Tesch Guilherme Tesch 6'8" | SF North Broward Prep | 2023 FL . He played for Somerset Academy-Canyons in Boynton Beach last season. Roberts runs with Judah Nation.
Jamai Hager-Tejada Jamai Hager-Tejada 5'10" | CG Mater Lakes | 2023 FL – Dillard*/Western*
2023 Jamai Tejada will be an aggressive guard wherever he plays in the fall. Could that be for coach Melvin Randall depending on his landing spot? Or will he play for Mike Hardy at Dillard? Tejada can really attack the lane and finish with either hand. He is only getting bigger from the 5-foot-10 version I saw at Mater Lakes Academy. Tejada averaged over 18.6 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the floor last season. From the outside, he knocked down thirty 3-pointers. Tejada is a must watch come fall.
